How Star Wars games could end 2024 with a bang

2024 has been quite an eventful year for Star Wars video games, all things considered. In August, Ubisoft released the somewhat divisive open-world action-adventure game Star Wars Outlaws for PC and current generation consoles. Zynga, meanwhile, launched the 1.0 version of the PvP shooter Star Wars Hunters on Nintendo Switch and mobile phones in June. Respawn Entertainment was in the spotlight again this year, as its Soulslike-inspired action game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivorcame to PS4 and Xbox One in mid-September, about a year after launching on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S. Embracer Group subsidiary Aspyr also ported a couple of classics Star Wars games for modern platforms in 2024, inclusive Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and the first two Star Wars: Battlefront titles.

When it comes to new Star Wars game notifications, but not much has happened. There are a handful coming up SW titles in development, but they have received almost no updates in 2024 so far. Perhaps the most notable of these games is Star Wars: Eclipse and that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. Although they were both announced more than three years ago, it's still unclear when these games will be released, if ever. As such a potential SW: Eclipse or VERTEBRAE A groundbreaking announcement at The Game Awards in December would not only shed some light on the status of these projects, but would also be the perfect way to end 2024 for Star Wars fans.

Star Wars KOTOR Remake Shouldn't Cut Corners on One Quest

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is full of engaging side missions, but there's one that the remake should pay special attention to.

A Star Wars Eclipse or KOTOR Remake announcement at the TGAs would be a perfect way to end 2024

Star Wars Eclipse is the next big game from Quantic Dream, and it's still a long way off

Of the two mentioned above Star Wars game, Star Wars: Eclipse is probably the most elusive of the lot. This title was revealed during The Game Awards 2021 with a long CGI trailer that did not have a single gameplay snippet. Although it is developed by Quantic Dream, the French studio behind interactive adventure games such as Detroit: Become Human and A lot of rainit seems to have more emphasis on combat compared to the company's previous works. However, the game will still have a “branching”, narrative-like story with choices and consequences.

Updates on Star Wars: Eclipse has been frugal to say the least. The last time Quantum Dream tipped off fans about the game's development was in September 2023, when a representative from the company told IGN that “it's there” but that it's “just not ready.” More than a year has passed since then, but it seems Star Wars: Eclipse is still a long way off, given that the game's lead writer left Quantic Dream in August 2024. Fans may have to wait a few more years to get their hands on Star Wars: Eclipsebut any new trailers or bits of information about the game, no matter how small, would be welcome at this point.

The development of the KOTOR remake has been problematic, but it is still a work in progress

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was revealed at a PlayStation Showcase in 2021 but, like SW: Eclipsethe game is still nowhere to be found. It's no secret that this remake has had a troubled development cycle thus far. The game was originally set to be created by Aspyr and released as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, but after Sony reportedly pulled funding from the project, it now has the help of Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2 developer Saber Interactive. According to the CEO of Embracer Group, the company that publishes the game VERTEBRAE remake is still in the works, at least as of April 2024.

The original Knights of the Old Republic is widely considered to be one of the best RPGs of all time, so remaking the game while keeping its original essence intact will not be easy. Saber Interactive is a studio with a storied legacy, but it hasn't really worked on large-scale remakes like this before, so it will be interesting to see how the company will handle VERTEBRAE. If the release is not too far away, maybe fans will get a glimpse of this Star Wars games later this year. While this is purely hopeful speculation, it would certainly be a great way to end what has been a solid 2024 for Star Wars games.
