Chapter 11

When the reader or viewer is first introduced for Kibutsuji Muzan in DemonsklayerEither through manganese or anime, he seems to be a man without any weakness. He is modern, handsome and charismatic on the one hand – and ruthless, scary and deadly on the other. He is also the one responsible for killing Tanjiro's family and turning Nezuko into a demon, making him the focus of Tanjiro's revenge. Muzan is also the demon king, and as the source of all demons, as long as he exists, the demon plague will never stop.

Like the story of Demonsklayer However, it develops more that Muzan than meets the eye. Despite his reckless character and violent nature, he also has a serious emotional weakness – he fears death. Muzan's goals are all focused on achieving real immortality and overcoming his (and all demons) weakness for sunlight. Although nothing else seems to be able to stop him because of his incredible power, Muzan knows that he has the same weakness for sunlight that all demons have. It limits his movements during the day, and it gives Demon Corps a way to defeat him.

Muzan is motivated by an extreme desire to live. All his plans and everything he does are motivated by his desire to overcome death and to live without the human fear of dying. IN Demonsklayer Chapter 98, Muzan tells the Demon Gyokko;

The only thing I hate is “change”. Changes in circumstances. Changes in the body. Changes in emotion. In most cases, every change is “degradation”. It's a decline. The only thing I like is “permanence”. If something does not change for eternity. It is in a perfect state.

Muzan wants to be “eternal” and go into this perfect state. But he was not always an almost immortal demon and started with the same human weaknesses as everyone.

Was Muzan a human being?

How did he become a demon?

Kibutsuji Muzan began his life as a human being – but during Japan's heian -era. To put it in context, the Heian era was from 794 to 1185. Demonsklayer Located in the Taisho era 1912 to 1926. DemonsklayerMuzan has already been a demon for more than a millennium, and the demons he created have terrorized the world for hundreds of years at his commandment.

Muzan did not have a simple start to his life and fought against death even though he was still in his mother's uterus. In his last moments before being defeated by the sun after fighting with Tanjiro, Muzan revealed that before he was born, his heart would stay into his mother. When he was born, his heart stopped and he was declared a stillborn. Only through his enormous desire to live could he begin to breathe before he was cremated.

However, it was only the beginning of Muzan's fight against death. Chapter 127 i Demonsklayer Manga shows what happened to him. Muzan became terminally ill as a teenager, and at the age of 19, it seemed likely that he would not live to see 20. A doctor tried to help him, but not give up Muzan's fall. The doctor created a special medicine from a blue spider lily, but Muzan did not understand the “gift” he had received until it was too late. Think he would not live much anymore, and frustrated that he had fought death all his life just to lose the battle, Muzan killed the doctor in his anger.

But Muzan realized shortly after the doctor had “cured” him in some way; The drug from Blue Spider Lily had made him stronger and removed his illness. Demonsklayer Chapter 127 reads;

Muzan thought he had a strong body, but that was a problem. He couldn't go in the sun. He realized that he would die if he was hit by sunlight. When it comes to searching for human meat, there was really no problems for Muzan because eating people solved his problems.

What it had left him with was a weakness for sunlight and a desire to eat people. He had become the first demon. However, his weakness to sunlight meant that he was still not immortal and did not have a perfect body, which was what made him try to unlock the secrets of Blue Spider Lily. But with the doctor's death, Muzan could not replicate or perfect medicine, or even how to grow the flower.

Muzan's fear of death and desire after an immortal, perfect body that had no weakness is what made him seek Nezuko so hard in the latter parts of Demonsklayer. When he learned that she had conquered the sun even though he was a demon, Muzan became obsessed with finding her and learning how she had done what he could not have been able to over a millennium. Muzan became a demon thanks to a doctor who tried to cure him and prevent him from dying, and even though it extended his life far beyond any human being, his weakness against sunlight would eventually kill him in the end.
