How Assassin's Creed Shadows Honors Lore of Early Games

This article contains large spoilers for Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The Assassin's Creed Franchise has changed a lot over the past 18 years. The series' biggest change came across long in 2017 with the launch of Assassin's Creed OriginsAn item that replaced the series Stealth and Parkour focus for action-RPG elements and a gigantic open world. Each post then Assassin's Creed Origins (Apart from AC Mirage) has continued to build on this Open-World RPG formula, including the latest edition, Assassin's Creed Shadows.

From the outside it may seem as if Assassin's Creed has lost contact with the original identity of the series. Although it is true that the series' modern items look and feel completely different from Altair, Ezio, Connor and Edward's adventure, there are still plenty of references to Franchiset's overall story and some calls to classic titles. Assassin's Creed ShadowsFor example, Franchiseen's legacy honors by referring to two of its most beloved items.

After completing everyone Assassin's Creed Shadows“Kuji-Kiri side assignments and” Wolves and Foxes “main mission, players will be presented with a new assignment entitled” Secrets of the Blade. “As Naoe, players must go to the hidden grave of the old in Izumi Settsu.

After completing a short obstacle course, players will pass through a crack in the walls of the cave and come face to face with the iconic killer Brotherhood logo carved in a large door. Towards the end of Yasuke's Questline in Assassin's Creed ShadowsPlayers come face to face with Duarte de Melo, a slave from Yasuke's past. After immediately killing Duarte, Yasuke finds a letter and takes it to his Jesuits allied Luis Frois.

Frois tells Yasuke that the letter contains an oath to the temple arrangement, an organization he had heard of when he lived in Italy. He conveys that the temples were said to be a powerful organization that consisted of the Pope and the three large houses, and that Borgia's “thirst for power almost destroyed the city [of Rome]. “Frois also mentions that the temples in Italy were” eradicated mysterious “by a secret organization.

Of course long fans of Assassin's Creed Franchise will immediately capture this reference to the events in Assassin's Creed 2 and BrotherhoodWhen Ezio Auditore formed its own Italian brotherhood to take down Borgias and their temples employees. The end of Yasuke's Questline sees him to kill Nuno Caro, a Temple-high up who promises that his death will bring about a war and potentially tease an even more direct Temple-Assin connection in the future.
