My Hero Academia saw the release of Volume 42 recently, and it's safe to say that it delivered quite a bit of exciting content for fans. Without a doubt, the most exciting thing from volume 42 was the epilogue to the story, or in other words, My Hero Academia chapter 431. For some reason, Horikoshi released an extra 38-page epilogue with volume 42, and it only serves to add to the already exciting ending of the series. In many ways, My Hero Academia chapter 431 adds more context to the ending and gives a better ending to the story. Of course, no writer can please everyone, which means there are quite a few individuals in the community who aren't too thrilled with the ending, but it's safe to say it was a heartwarming chapter to say the least.

  • Toya Todoroki battled Endeavor and Shoto
  • Toya's life was barely saved

Toya Todoroki, popularly known as Dabi, was one of the main antagonists in the My Hero Academia. Fans know that he has been a member of the League of Villains, which later became the Paranormal Liberation Front. He was the son of Endeavor, the former number one hero, and because of that he suffered quite a lot during his childhood. This was largely due to Endeavor's obsession with surpassing All Might. Knowing he couldn't do it on his own, he wanted the perfect child who could go on to surpass his own and All Might's legacy. Believing Toya to be just that, Endeavor put him through grueling training as a child, where he suffered quite a bit. If that wasn't enough, he never acknowledged all his efforts to earn his father's praise. Things got even worse when Shoto was born as Endeavor realized he now had the perfect child. Toya, meanwhile, was completely abandoned, and although he tried to get his father's attention in many ways, he never really succeeded.

Finally, one of his attempts resulted in his body being completely burned, and this is where he was presumed dead. In reality, he survived, and that's when Dr. Garaki found him. Eventually, Toya realized that his father and his family didn't care about him as much as he thought they did, and that's what led to Dabi's birth.

He served as a major villain in My Hero Academia from this point forward, help the League of Villains in many ways. He revealed his truth in the Meta Liberation War Arc, and eventually, in the final war, stood in the way of Endeavour, and then Shoto Todoroki as well. Unfortunately, in the end, his body was in a state where it could no longer heal, and this was especially the case as he pushed himself beyond all limits in the final war. He even planned to blow himself up, only to be stopped by Rei and his siblings, including Shoto. Without them, he would most certainly have died, taking many people with him. In the end, his life was saved, but only temporarily. Before My Hero Academia ended, fans were clearly told that Toya was on borrowed time. He lived, but sooner rather than later he would continue to die.

Toya's death is confirmed in My Hero Academia

Toya Todoroki died at an unknown time

IN My Hero Academia chapter 431, Toya's death is essentially confirmed. 8 years have passed since the end of the final war, and at this point, all Hero aspirants from the UA have graduated. Most of them have become popular Pro Heroes, and Shoto Todoroki is at number two on the Hero Billboard. Shoto has had quite an illustrious career as a hero, and his strength continues to grow.

In the epilogue, fans saw Shoto hold a celebratory event for his ascension to the rank of Number 2 Hero in Japan. This was where all of UA's former Class 1A reunited, and fans got to see what each member was up to in their daily lives. This was a phenomenal chapter to say the least, and the way it expanded into the various characters that fans have come to love dearly over the years was truly heartwarming. Shoto's growth was also remarkable. He has now developed new hobbies. Above all, he realized that he loves to eat when he paid his respects at Dabi's shrine.

My Hero Academia writer Horikoshi confirms he's starting a new series

Horikoshi is the MHA mangaka. With MHA done, Horikoshi will start a brand new manga.

It seems that Shoto visits Dabi's shrine from time to time and pays his respects there. During one of these visits, he realized that he loves to eat, and because of his love of soba, which he shares with Toya, he wants to enroll in a bowl and chopstick making class in Ishikawa. Shoto believes that soba in homemade tableware would taste even better, and this is his way of paying tribute to his brother, whom he loved.

Here, Horikoshi simply confirms that Toya eventually died. When exactly he died is still unknown, but this should not come as a surprise to fans, because My Hero Academia had already confirmed to fans that he would continue to die eventually, as his life was already cut short.

How Toya's death affected Shoto Todoroki

Toya made a big impression on Shoto Todoroki

It is clear for fans to see that Toya Todoroki's death had a profound effect on Shoto. Fans know that Shoto himself started to take a positive step when he realized that his brother was on borrowed time. The two started talking about their hobbies, and after receiving a positive response from Toya, regarding his favorite food being Soba, Shoto seemingly continued to talk to him from time to time. The fact that he still goes to his shrine to pay his respects just shows what a kind brother he really is.

Shoto enrolling in the Ishikawa class only shows that he still thinks about his brother and that he carries him in his heart. Learning this is especially important to him because this is a hobby he shares with his brother. Toya may be gone, but his memory remains with Shoto. To many fans, Shoto saying he loves eating food may seem rather bizarre or out of place, but looking at it from a different perspective adds a whole new layer to his newfound love of trying different foods. At the end of the day, Toya Todoroki lived a very tragic life from start to finish. But he too was someone who aspired to have a great life and deserve praise and recognition from everyone around him. Unfortunately, it didn't come to him until much later in the story, and when it did, his life was cut short. Toya was led astray by none other than his own father and every crime he committed is partly due to Endeavor as well. But for what it's worth, Shoto remembers the good side of Toya deep in his heart and will always continue to show him his respect.
