Ghost of Tsushimasuccessor, Ghost of Yoteimay already look like it's doing a lot of things differently than its predecessor, as its willingness to ditch Jin Sakai and replace him with a new protagonist, Atsu, is enough of a massive change in itself. However, Ghost of Yotei will likely still retain some of the core elements of Ghost of Tsushimawith one of the predecessor's most charming gimmicks, a respect for animal wildlife, as among these elements.
With Ezo's wilderness offering a wealth of potential, Ghost of Yotei has plenty of opportunity to echo its predecessor's love and respect for animals, with potentially even more animals for players to get to know and bond with. The announcement trailer for Ghost of Yotei has already revealed what could be one of Atsu's companions, but it's likely that the new protagonist will encounter many more on his journey through Ezo around the imposing skyline of Mount Yotei.

Ghost of Yotei's Origin Story for Atsu can hopefully sidestep Tsushima's moral landslide
Ghost of Yotei may feel compelled to repeat Jin Sakai's origin story from Ghost of Tsushima, but it would be better to go a different route.
Ghost of Yotei seems to reprise Tsushima's love for animals
Ghost of Tsushima's Animals are an important part of its world
Despite everything else that it has to do, Ghost of Tsushimas love for animals is one of its outstanding characteristics. At first glance, upon entering its world, it may seem that Jin Sakai's horse is the most important thing to write about, especially given the strong bond the two seem to share. However, Ghost of TsushimaTsushima Island is full of wild animals, and Jin shares an intimate closeness with each of them as well. This is especially realized in the fact that it is impossible for players to kill creatures that are not hostile to Jin, in order to preserve the game's themes and cultural reverence for nature.
Besides Jin's horse, there are golden birds in it Ghost of Tsushimawho act as guides to almost anything and try to attract Jin's attention with their soft coos and gentle tweets. Ghost of Tsushimas foxes also share the stage as one of the game's more adorable and heartwarming animals. These cute and witty creatures will lead Jin to the Inari Shrines, and he can even pet them if they stick around long enough for him to have the chance.
Even fireflies and butterflies contribute to increasing the atmosphere in
Ghost of Tsushima
with the former sometimes guiding Jin to hidden secrets in the environment and the latter simply adding to the overall atmosphere of the game.
Ghost of Yotei already has one wolf and will likely have more
Although it has not been directly revealed yet, Ghost of Yotei will probably feature even more animals for Atsu to bond with than the wolf shown in the game's announcement trailer. The wolf is likely a Hokkaido wolf, a now-extinct subspecies of gray wolf that roamed the forests and grasslands of Ezo during the Edo period Ghost of Yotei According to the story, the Hokkaido wolf was an apex predator and had a mixed relationship with humans, so it will be interesting to see how Atsu's relationship develops with her companion – assuming the two share a lasting bond throughout the game. .
Despite everything else that it has to do,
Ghost of Tsushima
s love for animals is one of its outstanding characteristics.
Other animals Ghost of Yotei may appear due to their presence in Ezo during Japan's Edo period are Ezo deer, Ezo red fox, sables, Ezo mountain hares, and raccoons, the animal from which Mario's Tanuki outfit takes its name and appearance. More than likely, both the deer and the red fox will be present Ghost of Yoteiwhich they were in Ghost of Tsushima also. However, sables and Ezo mountain hares also seem like likely candidates, especially if Atsu makes frequent trips to the mountains and forests surrounding Mount Yotei. Finally, Ghost of Yotei Adding tanuki to the game could give players an opportunity to pet what is potentially one of the fluffiest creatures in the game.
It is still unclear whether Ghost of Yotei will include all of Ezo's most common animals that roamed the lands during the Edo period, but given Sucker Punch's track record of Ghost of Tsushimait certainly seems likely. If so, players should expect to be surrounded by adorable animals Ghost of Yoteisome of which can even interact directly with.
The sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yōtei is a PS5 exclusive scheduled for release sometime in 2025. The story is set in 1603 and will feature a new protagonist and a new Japanese region far removed from Tsushima's setting.
