GameStop announced that its price stickers, which have historically been difficult to peel off without any permanent damage, will be much easier to remove going forward. GameStop claimed that the new price stickers would leave less adhesive residue on video game box covers compared to the outgoing ones.
Over the years, GameStop has been one of the most popular brick-and-mortar retailers for gamers to buy, sell, and trade various physical video games and accessories. GameStop has also hosted trade-in events to give customers a way to purchase refurbished consoles and cross-platform games at a discounted price. The rise of online commerce has led to a sharp decline in revenue for GameStop over the past decade, resulting in store closures across the United States. As part of its ongoing efforts to keep customers engaged, GameStop revealed that a major change was rolling out at its retail locations.

It's officially the end of an era for GameStop
GameStop is ending one of its most popular and well-known benefits that has helped gamers worldwide for years.
GameStop is finally making its price stickers less annoying to remove
In a statement on Twitter on June 23, GameStop stated that they were changing their stickers effective immediately. More often than not, games and accessories sold at GameStop have usually been marked by stickers that were unsightly and difficult to remove cleanly. Additionally, stickers have also been placed on top of older ones due to price changes or multiple swaps. GameStop also provided a screenshot comparing the old and new stickers.
A copy of Darksiders 2: Deathitive Edition for Xbox 360 showed how much residue could be left on the old stickers. On the other hand, the sticker placed on a copy of Astro Bot showed how almost no residue was left after peeling off the price tag from one of the corners. Additionally, the price is now more prominent on GameStop's new stickers. GameStop said the new stickers would be easier to lift at the corners, which should leave less stickers than before when removed. To accompany the sticker rollout, GameStop is running a promotion where customers will receive up to a 20% trade-in bonus on all games traded in for pre-orders of all eligible new titles released in 2026, such as Grand Theft Auto 6 or Marvel's Wolverine.
GameStop jokingly added that the level of glue on the outgoing sticker design was not part of the company's strategic vision going forward. Given that stickers and other markings can potentially affect the price of some rare and collectible games, GameStop's change to its sticker design will ensure that future trade-ins won't be difficult to clean up. In response to GameStop's post, some users welcomed the change while others wondered what took the storefront so long to update its stickers.

The decal redesign came amid a busy time for GameStop. According to an investor report published on June 23, GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen reportedly gave up a $35 billion bonus as part of the company's ongoing efforts to buy eBay. The plan was originally revealed in January 2026, months before GameStop announced its plans. However, eBay rejected GameStop's buyout offer, saying the offer was “neither credible nor attractive” to the company.
