Summary
- FPS games like Doom Eternal excel by combining shooting, movement and parkour to create an exciting experience.
- Severed Steel and Ghostrunner offer fast-paced combat and smooth movement, making them stand out in the FPS genre.
- Titanfall 2 shines for its exceptional combination of shooting and parkour mechanics, perfect for competitive players.
Movement is a central part of gaming and makes up most of the experience players will have when playing a game. Having good movement is extremely important to leave a good impression on players, and having parkour is even better, as it adds purpose and excitement to an otherwise monotonous mechanic (ie getting from one point to another).

10 Best DOOM Clones of All Time, Ranked
DOOM clones dominated the 90s and cemented the core concepts that define what is known today as a boomer shooter. These are the best of them.
FPS games take particular advantage of movement mechanics and parkour, where the first-person perspective adds a layer of believability and realism to the experience that other genres can't quite capture in the same way. Bargain amazing FPS game with parkour mechanics can be difficult, but there are plenty of titles for those willing to search for them.
8 Doom Eternal
Unlimited demon slaying potential
- Released
- March 20, 2020
- OpenCritic Rating
- Powerful
When it comes to fast-paced action FPS games, there are no titles as iconic as Downfall franchise. From the classic game released in 1993 to the more recent iterations of the title in the form of Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal (2020), there's plenty of demon slaying in the franchise to keep fans busy for quite some time.
Doom Eternalin particular, is a playground for parkour fans, with lots of interesting movement options for players. Hyphens, grappling hooks and wall climbing create a dynamic movement environment that I enjoy for both the masses and enthusiasts. The game focuses on three things: shooting, movement, and satisfying kills, and it does all three to perfection.
7 Chipped steel
A dynamic shooter experience
Chipped steel
- Released
- 13 May 2021
- Developer
- Greylock Studio
- OpenCritic Rating
- Strong
Chipped steel is an inspired title that learns from the best of the best in the genre of platforming FPS games. The combination of fast-paced combat and buttery smooth movement is hard to find elsewhere, leaving players wanting more as soon as the story mode is complete.
The game encourages the player to master their movement mechanics and perform stunts, and it implements a nice slow motion mechanic that paves the way for truly masterful combos and complex actions. The stylized look of the game is visually stunning, and the shooting feels extremely satisfying.
6 Mirror's Edge
Clean movement and no fluff
- Released
- November 11, 2008
Less shooter and more first person parkour simulator, Mirror's Edge is the kind of game that defines a genre. Developed by the studio behind Battlefield franchise, Mirror's Edge directs the player's entire focus to a single mechanic: movement.
There is some shooting in the game, but players are effectively encouraged to ignore it and go for melee instead. The game is very punishing when it comes to parkour, which requires precision and fine control from the player. But once the player gets the hang of a level's design, everything starts to come together to create an unforgettable experience.
5 Dishonored 2
Stealth moves and interesting abilities
- Released
- November 11, 2016

Dip your toes into the realm of fantasy, Dishonored 2 has all the charm of its predecessor, and gives the added bonus of even more content and better graphics that make it hold up much better to modern tastes.

5 Stealth Games That Allow Non-Lethal Runs
Shadowy backstabbing can be fun, but many stealth games force the player's hand to kill. Games like Dishonored and Clandestine let the player choose.
The game doesn't put much emphasis on movement, but sneaking around a hostile Victorian town with special movement abilities leads to a certain amount of parkour nonetheless. The blink ability in particular is important in the game, and it serves to make the movement much more interesting than it would otherwise be.
4 Ultra cool
Quick chaos
Ultra cool
- Released
- September 3, 2020
- Developer
- Arsi “Hakita” Patala
If Downfall would have a little indie brother with all the violence, double the moves and half the visual mess, would it be Ultra cool. Released in 2020, Ultra cool is still in Early Access, but the content of the game is nothing short of pleasing.
When Ultra cool claims to be a fast FPS, it means full of speed. With retro aesthetics and a focus on player skill rather than increasingly powerful skills or weapons (although there are plenty of bombastic weapons to enjoy), the game is a treat for casual and serious FPS players alike.
3 Ghostrunner
A cyborg with ninja skills and a goal
- Released
- October 27, 2020
- Developer
- One More Level, Slipgate Ironworks
- OpenCritic Rating

Ghostrunner is everything a cyberpunk enthusiast with a passion for ninjas could ask for in a game. It's unique aesthetic, simple gameplay and focus on movement sets it apart from basically everything else in the industry.

10 Underrated First Person Shooters of the 2000s
The FPS genre has many beloved franchises (Call of Duty, Battlefield, Far Cry) but some 21st century shooters are underrated.
The game is all about precise strikes, planned movements and epic attack sequences that leave the player breathless from the adrenaline rush. It has a pretty decent story, a simple level-based design, and beautifully stylized graphics that have a distinct cyberpunk aesthetic. For fans of fun traversal, it is also a must play.
2 Titanfall 2
Parkour on those fools
- Released
- 28 October 2016
- OpenCritic Rating
- Powerful
Widely regarded as the game with the best movement in the FPS genre, Titanfall 2 lives up to its reputation admirably. Of all the FPS games that focus on parkour and movement, it manages to combine the shooting aspect with traversal the best.
There isn't always a need to combine two genres perfectly, but for those people looking for excellent gun action along with masterful movement, Titanfall 2 is the only stop. The fact that it even has a multiplayer mode where the game pits players against each other makes it that much more attractive to competitive players.
1 Neon white
Become a Speedrunning Champion
- Released
- June 16, 2022
- Developer
- Angel matrix
- OpenCritic Rating
- Powerful
Neon white is the fever dream of a card game enthusiast, a parkour lover and a visual novel fan, all combined into an unholy creation that manages to break through its genre limitations to appeal to a wide audience without losing any of its charm.
The game is essentially a puzzle platformer. It encourages the player to find their flow and progress through levels as quickly as possible while using as little of the resources at their disposal as possible, essentially introducing a casual audience to the world of speedrunning. The art style is charming, the gameplay is revolutionary, and the story is simple but effective.
