Obi-Wan Kenobi has been on hiatus with no sign of returning since its release as a limited series in 2022, despite many fans and the show's management being vocal about wanting more of the same. A recent statement from the titular star seems to indicate that the effort was not wasted.
While Star Wars made its name on the big screen with the original and sequel trilogies, the franchise's acquisition by Disney would bring a new focus on TV and streaming content that simply wasn't there before. One such new project in this direction was Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, which saw the return of Ewan McGregor's iconic character from the prequels. While the show had its detractors, it was one of Disney's stronger offerings Star Wars, and some sections of the fan base were eager for a second season, including McGregor himself. However, there would only be negative updates regarding the chance of a new season at the longest.

Respawn's Star Wars Jedi franchise has yet to eclipse Fallen Order's crowning cinematic achievement
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has jaw-dropping sequences intertwined with gameplay, though none meet the high standards set by an epic moment in Fallen Order.
Despite the lack of positive signs from the franchise prior to this point, it seems McGregor may have had a point in getting more storylines with Obi-Wan Kenobias the star recently revealed that some progress has been made. Speaking at a ComicConStar Wars panel, fan-favorite Jedi Master revealed that there was now a real movement behind the scenes to do a new season of the show and excited fans with some of the things he'd like to do with a second season if given the chance. “…Obviously, between the end of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and [later] when Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi,” McGregor explained. “There's got to be a few more stories in there and we're definitely hoping… well, 'exploring' it, I guess, would be the word to say,”
Star Wars isn't done with Kenobi, as the franchise recently surprised fans with a prequel-era story that heavily involved the character, and there's sure to be more for a new season to explore. McGregor would give an answer that drew a roar of support from fans when asked what he would like to do with the character going forward. “There are a couple of things. I'd really like to wear that armor, I was talking to someone earlier, from the Clone Wars. I think it's something I'd appreciate.” As for having to undergo a degree of digital aging to portray a Clone Wars-era Obi-Wan, McGregor agreed, giving another important reason why he would be up for it no, I do,” he said. “And that way, Hayden and I can really get back together.”
This is a significant step forward from previous reports of backstage interest in more of the show, even from McGregor's optimistic self. This is good news for fans who want more Kenobi, but the idea that this exploration is ongoing could suggest that there is more than a new season on the table. In a similar way as The Mandalorians bittersweet upcoming movie ending, Obi-Wan Kenobi may end up forgoing another season to instead be made into a blowout movie project that will take full advantage of the massive star power and fan adoration that McGregor brings to the franchise. Another possibility, especially in light of the Clone Wars comments, would be McGregor and Christensen playing a major role in a future Ahsoka project. Moving away from the flashbacks in season one of Ahsoka show on Disney+, any Clone Wars flashback in live action would be an amazing experience for fans of the franchise.
After all, the timing of this news may not be a coincidence. With plans for Daisy Ridley's new Star Wars With the project rumored to be on hold, it's anyone's guess what direction the franchise may choose to take moving forward. For now, viewers can only wait and see if McGregor will get his wish and return as part of the effort to move the franchise past The Acolyte and on less controversial matters. If it ends up being a full-on movie, fans can at least look forward to some big-budget action from one of the franchise's most powerful characters.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is available to stream on Disney+.
