Late summer/early fall will be a busy time for games
There were a handful of anticipated games that finally had release dates confirmed. The Marvel's Wolverine pre-orders were announced alongside assurances that it was still on track for September 15, but Marvel's claw-wielding anti-hero definitely won't be alone this month. September will be packed with titles for PS5 players to choose from.
Games confirmed for September 2026 on State of Play
- Marvel's Wolverine – September 15
- Dune Awakening – September 22
- Silent Hill: Townfall – September 24
- Control resonant – September 24
- Onimusha: Path of the Sword – September 25
This year's September gaming lineup will be hard to beat, especially when it comes to action titles. Marvel's Wolverine, Control resonantand Onimusha: Path of the Sword form an incredibly strong trio of action offerings that will be hard to choose between. Control resonants trippy world sets it apart from the three, but games that Onimusha: Path of the Sword and Marvel's Wolverine can attract more attention by being more straight action stories.
Horror lovers will get to dive into the scary season a few days early this year, since then Silent Hill: Townfalls release date is officially confirmed for the end of September. The horror series took a bold risk last year with Silent Hill bs new story based in Japan, and Konami continues this trend of experimenting with new locations outside of the titular town of Silent Hill. Silent Hill: Townfall takes place on a fictional Scottish island called St. Amelia, and it looks like it has all the right ingredients to be a chilling addition to the beloved horror franchise.
October is getting just as crowded
- Rayman Legends Retold – October 1
- Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered – October 1
- Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve – October 8

- No rest for the wicked (1.0) – TBA
There are just as many games coming out in October, but this time there's a solid mix of remasters, remakes, and the long-awaited No rest for the wicked 1.0 update. A game that will have one of the biggest spotlights that month is Phantom Blade Zero. Originally scheduled for September, Phantom Blade Zero pushed back to late October to give the game some extra time in the oven before its debut. Also the new Rayman remake, Dynasty Warriors 3 Remasteredand a new one Ace Combat entry will be fun nostalgia trips for many players.
Other big moments, like To Dawn 2 announcement and a new look at the body horror nightmare SICKhelped wrap up the event, but they have yet to have official release dates confirmed. One of the most exciting announcements of the evening was the dinosaur horror game The Lost Wildwhile Chemistry teased a persuasive world. Between these aforementioned games, Chef Bancho, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantisand Stuntman: Hollywoodnext year is possibly already shaping up to be another big year for releases. There's also the chance that some of these games without revealed launch targets could come out earlier than expected.
Now to address the god of war elephant in the room
It actually happened. A God of War Laufey announcement closed the State of Play exhibit, and it didn't skimp on the content. This reveal wasn't a trailer. Santa Monica Studio made a wild move by showing off 20 minutes of opening gameplay that featured a teaser of Faye in action, new companions, and some awesome new gods.
After months of God of war leaks claiming a Faye game was in the works, it was extra exciting to see State of Play use its reveal as a grand finale. The God of War Laufey the cast also looks incredibly promising. Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Faye, while Jack Quaid takes on the role of gelatinous cube Phranque, and Perlina Lau plays Rue.
Unfortunately a release window for God of War Laufey has not yet been revealed. It is more than likely that it will be canceled some time next year, however. This preview of the game only scratched the surface, but it was definitely the highlight of the showcase. God of War Laufey leaks in the past have claimed that Tyr will also be in the game at some point. Only time will tell, but many of the details in these leaks turned out to be true God of War Laufeys disclosure.
