Attack on Titan: The 12 Most Powerful Titans in the Series, Ranked

Titans are the biggest factor in the world of Attack on Titan. These giants have distinguished themselves as the strongest in the series.

Father of Rod and Uri Reiss

The unnamed father of Rod and Uri Reiss is one of the heirs we never see directly in the series. He was the prime example of Karl Fritz's will. He mindlessly followed the First King's ideology of not fighting back, despite being in possession of incomparable power. His sons constantly pleaded with him to change, but they were met with punishment. Eventually, he handed over the powers of founding Titan to Uri Reiss.

Frieda Reiss

Fried Reiss was briefly Queen of the Walls after inheriting power from her uncle, Uri Reiss. Before becoming a Founding Titan, she was a kind-hearted, compassionate girl who was especially fond of her sister, Historia. But once she became a Titan, she also became a slave under Karl Fritz's will. When Grisha Yeager infiltrated the Reiss Chapel and tried to convince Frieda to protect them from the Titans, she considered the request for a moment before the First King's ideology overtook her. Eventually the two clashed, and Grisha killed her and took power from the Founding Titan and merged it with the Attack Titan. According to Rod Reiss, despite having god-like power, Frieda lost due to her inexperience, which prevented her from using the Founder's full potential.

Uri Reiss

Like his brother, Uri also wanted to free humanity from the threat of the Titans. But after inheriting the founder's powers, he was unable to do so. He was described as a wise and humble man despite his position and power. This is evident when Kenny attacked Uri, but instead of fighting back or punishing him, Uri forgave him and even apologized. He realized that his ancestors' actions had brought a lot of pain to the Ackerman clan. He predicted that the world would eventually end and wanted to create a paradise for mankind before that happened.

Karl Fritz

Karl Fritz was the 145th King of Eldia, who was largely responsible for the events of Attack on Titan. The prolonged war between Eldia and Marley made him see the Eldians as sinners, and he decided to move away to Paradis Island with his people. On the island, he raised the walls and erased the memories of his people, isolating them from the rest of the world. He also refused to fight back the Titans sent by Marely as he considered Eldia guilty and fit for punishment. This ideology was passed on to countless people, and Eldia's suffering continued. The Eldians left behind on Marley were also subjected to severe discrimination and used as tools of war.

Grisha Yeager

Grisha Yeager was Eren's father and played a crucial role in the execution of Eren's plans. Born and raised in Marley, he saw discrimination and hatred against Eldians at a young age. Unfortunately, he witnessed Marley's brutality at the expense of his sister, which filled him with rage. He later joined the Eldian Restorationists but was reported by his own son, Zeke. Moments before he was about to transform into a pure titan, he was saved by Eren Kruger. He also gained the power of the Attack Titan and was tasked with retrieving the Founding Titan.

Eventually he met Frieda Reiss and took the Founding Titan, which he passed on to Eren along with the Attack Titan. However, it was later revealed that a majority of these actions were caused by Eren's influence from the future. Notably, when confronting Frieda, Grisha could not bring himself to kill children, but was goaded by Eren into doing so.

Ymir Fritz

About 2,000 years before the events of Attack on Titan, a young girl named Ymir was transformed into the first titan. Her power was harnessed by King Fritz, who made her fight wars and help Eldia grow. She eventually died while protecting Fritz from an attack, but her body was force-fed to her three daughters, and the Titans Power was transferred. Even after her death, she continued to endlessly follow King Fritz's will and lived in the Coordinate, where she created an infinite number of Titans.

Restricted by King Fritz, her powers could only be used by those of royal blood. However, Eren changed this when he interacted with her. Sympathizing with her, he insisted that she was simply a person and had free will, which allowed her to willingly give her powers to Eren. Eventually, seeing Mikasa kill Eren freed her from her toxic love for King Fritz and ended the Titans' curse.

Eren Yeager

Eren Yeager is arguably the strongest and most important Founding Titan user. Seeing his mother die at a very young age set him on a path for revenge and finding freedom. He was given the Founding Titan by his father, but was only able to use it much later when he came into contact with Dina Fritz. It allowed him to control the Pure Titans at will.

At the end of Season 3, Eren got to see memories of the past and the future, to kiss Historia's hand, who was a member of the royal family, which changed his perspective. Realizing that he could not change anything, he joined and caused world destruction. He used the power of the founding titan to free the colossal titans from the walls of Paradise, which were trampling the world. He also hid his true feelings until the end, and memories of his conversations with others were only revealed after his death.

Nobody in Attack on Titan has it easy, but these characters suffered the most throughout.

The Founding Titan's influence throughout the anime is unmatched. It connected the different timelines and was even responsible for the Titans' existence in the first place. Ranking them in terms of strength would have been wrong as we didn't get to see most of them in action. But when you talk about their impact on history, do you agree with this list?
