Element types are a very common mechanic in creature collection games. So it's no surprise that they're in as well Voidling bound. A voidling's elemental type affects the type of status effects they inflict on the opponent and the types of enemies they are effective against.
What's interesting is that creatures aren't tied to one or two specific elemental types. For example, there are a few different Kwipecks you can buy, including organic, fire-based, or ice-based versions. Here's a breakdown of each element type in the game.

If you don't count the neutral base, there is five different elemental types in Voidlingbound.

Organic
The organic type is the game's version of a plant or poison-based type. So, their icon is Greenand they can cause slow effects and poison status effects.
Very effective against Lesion spawns and Ancients.

Pyro
Pyro-type Voidlings are fire-based. So they often can burning their opponents and instilling fear. Their icon is orange.
Very effective against lesion spawns and crystallins.

Cryo
Cryo Voidlings are the ice-based creatures in the game. Hence their icon blueand they can freeze the enemy, which means they can grant freeze and freeze stun status effects.
Very effective against GenBots and Ancients.

Cyber
The Cyber type is reminiscent of the Electric type seen in other games. These Voidlings can give the enemy the static and lure effects. And their icon is yellow.
Very effective against Genbots and Crystallines.

How to give a voidling an element type
When you hatch a Voidling, they aren't always a specific type right from the start. Instead, they are classified as neutral. But you can turn them into something more interesting by using the evolution chamber to make them a specific type.
To do this you must have the creature equipped from the Sanctuary menu. Then, enter the room next to where Leon usually stands. In it To the right of this room is the Evolution Chamber.
Enter it, and choose to evolve your creature. Then you must choose a path. Which voidling it is affects the path options you have, but each usually has you infuse the creature with an element.
You can only make certain creatures a certain elemental type by evolving. For example, Kwipecks cannot evolve into Cryo Kwipecks. Still, you can sometimes find a Cryo Kwipeck through an egg.
When you evolve, you can only choose a type if you have done so got the right mutagens for it. For example, to turn a Voidling into a Pyro type, you need a Pyro mutagen. You can pick up the mutagens from enemies, elemental rifts and as quest rewards.
