Destiny 2 Player Count causing server and login issues for final update

Destiny 2 Fans seem to have turned out in force for the Monument of Triumph update, with huge demand at launch putting a huge strain on the game's servers and causing login issues. With the launch of the Monument of Triumph update, the community is in a very bittersweet moment as the changes themselves have been hailed by players, although it also represents the end of the road for Destiny 2.

While Destiny 2 hasn't been in a good spot for nearly a year, it's hard to imagine anyone saw the end coming for the popular online shooter. The announcement that the Monument of Triumph would be Destiny 2s latest live service content update has left the community with a mix of emotions, ranging from confusion and denial to anger. Many have taken the opportunity to reminisce about their favorite moments, while developers and voice actors have released videos or written tweets sharing their love for the franchise. However, the community has also come together to send a message to Sony that they shouldn't give up on this franchise just yet.

Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph Demand is causing server issues

Although there have been attempts to get Sony's attention through things like a Destiny 3 the petition as well as spam messages in the PlayStrion State of Play, the community organized a Destiny 2 server slam of sorts when the last update hit. As it turns out, the plan appears to have been largely successful as Destiny 2 Player numbers exploded, pushing numbers on Steam alone that it hasn't reached in well over a year. If you look at the site popularity.report, which takes into account all platforms, Destiny 2 broke over a million players on June 10th, which is quite a feat for an almost 9-year-old game.

The increase of players to Destiny 2 has also had another effect, essentially causing login and server issues on June 9th. After the release of the update, many players saw error messages when trying to log in, and even those who could were kicked out due to servers crashing under the strain of players trying to log in. Bungie quickly made adjustments and things stabilized later that day, and the server likely cleaned up during the month of June as well.

It is currently unknown if any of these demonstrations from the community will have an effect on Sony or its decision on a possible. Destiny 3. Either way, there's no denying that the community has come out in support of the game and has done so much in an attempt to save the franchise. The outpouring of support has even extended to once-rival games like Warframewhich plans to launch a special and free Alert event on Telesto starting June 17th where players can earn a unique cosmetic Honoria title called Make Your Own Fate.

While fate for Fate franchise is still very uncertain, Bungie seems to be making sure the game goes out with a bang as Monument of Triumph is an extremely large update that not only adds tons of new content, but also makes some very player-friendly quality of life improvements. Fans will have plenty to do in the months and years following this update as they try to unlock the Immortal title and matching armor set, which will have them playing almost every piece of content and game mode currently available in Destiny 2.
