Demon's Souls fans are once again arguing about the 'Garbage' remake

It's been nearly five years since Bluepoint's Demon's Souls remake was released, but fans are once again arguing whether it's a better game than the original or soulless “trash.”

With all the constant calls for a Bloodborne remake, you'd think FromSoftware fans were all for the studio's beloved game getting a new coat of paint for a new generation. History has told us that much isn't the case, however, and that's proven by all the renewed arguments about Bluepoint's Demon's Souls remake.

Despite being very well reviewed when it launched nearly five years ago in late 2020, many FromSoftware fans have rallied against the Demon's Souls remake for how it “slackened” the atmosphere and graphics of the original game. It's a long-standing debate that's come up several times over the past few years, and it's just been rekindled just in time for the remake's fifth anniversary.

Frustrating soul vs welcoming soulless

The debate seems to have been kicked off by Twitter user elbethium, who randomly tweeted that the Demon's Souls remake is “superior to the OG game in every possible way”, which is a very strong statement that caught the attention of seemingly every FromSoft fan out there.

OG Demon's Souls defenders have already made their feelings about the game clear in the past, but that tweet kicked off the fire again. A popular response from fromsoftserve points out that while the game looks “better”, Bluepoint's spin on the game takes away a lot of the personality of the original.

The Fat Official is perhaps the best example of the difference between FromSoft and Bluepoint's versions of Demon's Souls.

Twitter user SmoughTown also sided with the original Demon's Souls, though his tweet was a little more fiery, calling Bluepoint's remake “trash.” They say it's good that it's available, but that the art direction and vibes were “murdered,” which seems to be the general consensus on what separates the two.

There aren't too many tweets defending elbethium's original stance that the remake is better, but some fans at least think Bluepoint's version is a good game that can stand alongside the original as a different version. However, that doesn't seem to be what most FromSoft fans think, and we can expect this argument to happen every time someone talks about the remake.
