Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster includes an image of Frank West's beta model from 2005, both a nod to the series' roots and potentially a reference by Capcom to some of the discourse surrounding Frank's appearance in the remaster.
Dead Rising fans will know that Frank West's gritty features have changed throughout the series, particularly his hairline with variable recession. When Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster was first announced, some disgruntled fans compared Frank's redesigned appearance to his original beta mode, especially in the hair department.
Looking good, Frank
It turns out that there is an easter egg of Frank's beta model from 2005 in the Deluxe Remaster. Jessica (Jessie) McCarney, the Homeland Security agent who communicates with Frank via the transceiver is more familiar with West than we might have imagined.
As discovered by X-user, YouTuber and massive Dead Rising fan STiP0, if you look closely at Jessie's phone during one of the cutscenes, you'll see that her screensaver is none other than Frank West, circa 2005. It's likely that Capcom just references the beginning of the series, but it's funny how the new Frank West resembles his beta counterpart.
Deluxe Remaster is filled with neat references to the series and the fandom that grew around it. Frank West's iconic response “I've covered wars, y'know” to Jessie's suggestion that he couldn't take care of himself became a meme in the community, so much so that Capcom included a war correspondent outfit for Frank in the remaster.
Dead Rising had such an interesting development cycle, with several of the game's features, locations, and content changing midway through development. This has resulted in a lot of cut content; Capcom has restored some content, like the rocket launcher, but not everything. Despite the anticipation, the long wait to try out the ray gun continues for Dead Rising fans.
