Spider-Man: Brand New Day is released in theaters on July 31, 2026 and tickets are finally on sale. Picks up where Spider-Man: No Way Home ended, the next MCU Spider-Man The film finds Peter Parker alone in a New York City that no longer knows his name. It gives Tom Holland's Spider-Man the cleanest reset he's had since joining the franchise.
That's a good starting point for Spider-Man: Brand New Daybut it also comes with a familiar Peter Parker problem. Spider-Man stories can only make Peter lonely, broken, burdened and self-sacrificing so many times before a fresh start looks like the same old recycled idea. Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man however, games have already found a better way forward.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day just set a franchise record, and that's great news
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has yet another update that continues to position it as the MCU's best Peter Parker movie.
Brand New Day needs to make Peter Parker's reset feel like growth
Brand new day arrives in a foreign location for the MCU's Spider-Man. No way home ended up erasing Peter Parker from the memories of everyone he loved, basically leaving him alone in a town that only knew Spider-Man. It gave the character a classic comic book reset, but it also took away much of what made Holland's version of the web-slinging superhero unique.

That's the challenge Brand new day now facing. The film could finally give fans the street-level Peter Parker story that many have probably wanted, with Spider-Man operating independently and no longer leaning on Tony Stark's legacy. At the same time, Brand new day must avoid making Peter's clean slate another round of the same loneliness that so many adaptations have already used as plot devices.
The problem comes when a new Spider-Man the story misunderstands Peter's pain for the only way to make him a compelling character, but Insomniac's own Spider-Man games have already offered a solution to that problem. Marvel's Spider-Man didn't start with a teenage Peter still learning to use his powers, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 didn't stop at just breaking him down again. Instead, the games treated Peter as someone who could grow, age, mentor, stumble, recover, and eventually understand that being Spider-Man didn't have to mean carrying it all alone.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is especially important here because it gave Peter plenty of darkness without regressing the whole point. The symbiote story forced him to confront the darkest parts of himself, such as his anger, exhaustion, sadness, jealousy, and the pressure of being needed by everyone at once. But Marvel's Spider-Man 2The end didn't just leave him isolated in the wreckage of his own life.
Brand new day must avoid making Peter's clean slate another round of the same loneliness that so many adaptations have already used as plot devices.
Rather, Insomniac allowed Peter's world to grow around him. Miles Morales had become strong enough to protect New York, MJ had chosen his own future, Harry's tragedy set Norman Osborn on a more dangerous path, and Cindy Moon's arrival teased yet another Spider-hero into the picture. Peter wasn't made irrelevant, but he eventually had to stop being the only answer.
In the end, that's the difference Spider-Man: Brand New Day need to understand. A reset can be a powerful storytelling tool, but it needs to feel like the beginning of a new chapter rather than a clever way to replay Peter's oldest wound for the umpteenth time. If the movie just leaves Peter alone again, it might satisfy the immediate after-No way home installation, but that wouldn't necessarily move him forward.
Insomniac's version of the character worked because Peter's struggle wasn't treated as the entire destination. He was still suffering, but the story used that suffering to make room for Miles, to deepen his relationship with MJ, and to create menace that could grow out of him. By the end, it didn't feel hopeless for Peter to go back because the city had more than one Spider-Man ready to fill his shoes.
Insomniac showed that Spider-Man can grow beyond a hero
So, that's the real lesson Brand new day can learn from Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man game. The best way to make Peter Parker feel new again isn't necessarily to take everything away from him. Sometimes the best move is to let Spider-Man the world becomes bigger than Peter alone.

And Marvel's Spider-Man 2 managed to accomplish that without disrespecting Peter in the process. The game still treated him as emotionally central, gave him the symbiote arc, tied him directly to Harry and Norman Osborn, and made his guilt part of the backbone of the story. But it also trusted Miles enough to make him more than a sidekick waiting for Peter to need help.
By finding that balance, Insomniac's future with the IP has become much more interesting. Peter can still play a role without being the only Spider-Man, Miles can lead without feeling like a substitute, and Cindy Moon can create a new layer without the series losing ground. If Marvel's Spider-Man 3 ever occurs, its greatest opportunity may be to turn that setting into a true Spider-Family story.
Of course, Spider-Man: Brand new day has to do with a different continuity. The MCU currently doesn't have Miles Morales in play as Spider-Man, and its Peter is still recovering from a spell that erased him from the lives of MJ, Ned, Happy Hogan, and the rest of his old world. That means the film has every reason to lean into loneliness at first.
Sometimes the best move is to let Spider-Man the world becomes bigger than Peter alone.
Still, solitude cannot be the whole answer forever. Peter is forgotten gives Brand new day a dramatic starting point, but it shouldn't trap him in a permanent loop of isolation. No way home has already made its sacrifice, so the next film must prove that Peter's loss can lead to something new.
So, for Brand new daythe question is not whether Peter should be alone in the beginning, because it must be by now. The real question is whether the film can make his loneliness feel like a step toward growth rather than a reset button pressed for nostalgia's sake. If Brand new day took a cue from Insomniac here, it would show Peter confronting his own limits, acknowledging them, and stepping back to let a new hero step up to the plate.
That's Peter Parker's problem Brand new day now faces. The movie has to make a familiar reset feel like progress, and that's harder than just putting Peter in a Spidey suit and sending him back to New York alone. Insomniacs Spider-Man games have already solved that problem by realizing that Peter's future will be more interesting when he finally gets to share it, and that might be the best foot forward for the MCUs Spider-Man also.
