Following the huge success that was Battlefield 6 Beta, including over 300,000 players during its early access Beta period, all eyes have shifted to Call of Duty and how players would respond to Black Ops 7's beta.
It turns out, not so good.
Black Ops 7 will probably still sell millions, but the early figures are worrying
As first discovered by Insider Gaming, Black Ops 7, which will be released later this year on November 14, currently undergoes its beta period, with an early access period from October 2-5 for those who have pre-ordered the game or have a sub to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, but dozens of codes have liquid. After that, the open beta period will begin for everyone else.
That said, a brief look at Steamdb shows that Call of Duty has topped 74,698 players in the last 24 hours, up from the 35,000 or it has maintained before Beta. At the time of writing, 46,385 players are currently active.
It is worth noting that this is Call of Duty Hub as a whole, which means that there is a good chance that several thousand players will not actively engage with Black Ops 7 and instead play a separate game. The “early access” phase is also limited, so the figures can be a bit oblique, but seeing the number of codes floating around, plus it is open to pre -orders makes things a little more worrying.
Perhaps the most remarkable is the fact that Treyarch's Senior Director of Production, Yale Miller, recently talked about the fear of franchise fatigue originating from there were Black OPS titles in back-to-back years. Activision has, for its part, tried to get into the good graces of fans by redoing their pre -order leather and revealed that “continuing” would not be supported, which limits the amount of unrealistic collapse at launch.
Whether these fear is fulfilled or these features is enough to swing fans remains to be seen, but the early returns are not beautiful.
