Black Ops 7 Zombies may add something even bigger soon

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies has had an excellent run, but that run will soon come to an end with Season 5 Reloaded's Rex Infernus. In the finale of this chapter of the Dark Aether saga, the crew will battle the Warden and visit the Revelations house in the process. And while Season 6 could feature a smaller survival map of some sort – the Castle of Kowakujo would be a good option – a large-scale round-based experience not present has many already writing it off as an afterthought. However, Treyarch has the opportunity to add something even better than a new map with the final season of Black Ops 7 Zombies: A Super Easter Egg.

For those unfamiliar with the concept of Super Easter Eggs, these are essentially final stages or secret unlocks available to those who completed every single main mission within a specific Zombies game. BO2 introduced the idea with their hub cards, BO3 augmented it with the unlockable starter pistol RK5, and Black Ops Cold War offered players epic rarity on their starting weapon for completing all missions. However, the undisputed king of super Easter eggs remains Endless warfare Zombies, a mode Treyarch didn't even develop. And with current Zombies main man Kevin Drew once told me he would try to top Lee Ross and their work IW Zombies team, it's hard to think of a better chance to deliver on that promise BO7 Zombies.

A Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies Super Easter Egg would have a high bar to overcome

Although not everyone loved Endless warfare Zombies – its cartoonish look, playful tone and different feel from Treyarch's work meant it wasn't everyone's cup of tea – the vast majority of the community has recognized its success with the super easter egg concept. For completing all main missions up through Beast from Beyond, players unlocked a bonus boss fight that remains one of the toughest in history Cod Zombies. And after completing this extra boss battle, players were showered with rewards; a bonus, fully voiced playable character, a new camo to chase and Director's Cut mode. This alternate gameplay added all Wonder Weapons to the box, created players with 25,000 points and all perks, and allowed box pulls to come pre-Pack-a-Punched.

Of course, when Kevin Drew shared his dream of surpassing Endless warfare Zombies, the fans were enthusiastic. Perhaps his vision would involve an even more memorable hidden boss fight that plays on the deep Aether lore, an even deeper version of the Director's Cut, or something entirely new. Unfortunately, fans have yet to see exactly what Drew's vision is. Drew and Ross interacted way back in 2022 after Black Ops Cold Wars somewhat weak rarity and a handful of emblems that don't come close to what IWZ accomplished. It can be assumed that Treyarch simply didn't have time to create the super easter egg it wanted, as the studio threw out Vanguard Zombies and then MWZ with some respite — not to mention the development of BO6 Zombies alongside these side modes. History then repeated itself BO6because Treyarch had to develop back to back Black Ops lets go, sentence BO6 had no Super Easter egg unlock whatsoever.

While Treyarch hasn't been able to take its foot off the gas pedal in years, the gap is between BO7 Zombies and Cod 2028 is poised to be its first real “break” in a long time. To have the right 3 years development time for Cod Zombies should allow the studio to not just create some special launch experiences for what will probably be Black Ops 8but also opens up the possibility of support BO7 even after its new map release has finished. Also, the map release ending with Season 5 feels somewhat intentional, almost as if Treyarch is planning something else for the Season 6 swan song.

What Could Black Ops 7's Super Easter Egg Actually Be?

Assuming Kevin Drew finally gets the chance to get a real Super Easter Egg in Season 6 — something that's by no means guaranteed — it'll be interesting to see exactly what that entails. A bonus boss fight after Warden could be a good move, with the studio taking a page out of IWZ's book. Said approach would need to ensure that the Warden isn't too difficult, as players would need to be able to reasonably handle two boss encounters in a row, but a simpler, spectacle-focused Warden fight could avoid feeling anticlimactic if it's flashy enough. As for what the secret bonus battle might be, there are plenty of options available to Treyarch. For example, a battle with a twisted Dark Aether-corrupted version of Dr. Monty would be a great way to finally give fans a taste of the big war they've always wanted, especially if there's a special arena for it.

However, a boss fight is only one step towards matching or surpassing IWZ, as Treyarch also needs to nail the rewards for the hypothetical Super Easter Egg. Sure, it could give players legendary weapons (or even Ultra on Cursed mode) at the start of a match, or maybe add each map's Wonder Weapons and legacy weapons to the mystery box. Bonus camos, emblems and cards to hunt down, not to mention extra playable characters like the Chaos or Victis teams, can also be exciting. Exclusive relics with beneficial effects are another reward option. But above all there is one thing Cod Zombies community has been talking about is to transfer, which would not only have seen BO6 weapons and skins, but potentially even BO6 Zombie maps, transferred to BO7.

While Carry Forward was almost completely abandoned for BO7 after complaints about cel-shaded American Dad and Beavis and Butthead skins ruin immersion – just BO6 Zombies increase progress and mission reward skins survived – many fans wish Zombies had been exempt from the decision. It's certainly a long shot, but perhaps completing the Super Easter Egg could unlock some version of Carry Forward, with Black Ops 6 weapons are added to the mystery box pool for completionists and BO6 skins that reset for the Terminus crew. BO6 maps would likely have to be available to everyone via a Zombies Chronicles 2, as it's a bit too big of an add-on to lock behind full quests, but the other parts of Carry Forward could provide a nice reward. It's at least something to consider, because when combined with an extra boss fight and some other obscure rewards, Carry Forward elements being restored could finally allow Treyarch to dethrone IWZ as the king of super easter eggs.
