Black Ops 1 and 2 are officially making a comeback

Treyarch has officially confirmed the long-rumored PlayStation ports of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and its critically acclaimed sequel, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops considered by many fans of the franchise to be one of the best Call of Duty game ever made. Its Zombies mode is still played to this day, and innovations like Wager Matches have left a lasting impact on the series. The multiplayer maps and single player campaign are still incredibly popular to this day.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is another heavy hitter when it comes to Call of Duty. Black Ops 2 tops many fans' best-of lists Call of Duty Games, and for good reason. Black Ops 2 doesn't just rest on its laurels, but instead delivers one of the more innovative Cod campaigns and offers some of the most pure multiplayer the series has ever seen with its fair share of iconic maps. Black Ops 1 and 2 have been playable on modern consoles through Xbox backwards compatibility for years now, but the games will finally be made playable on PlayStation soon enough.

Black Ops 1 and 2 are coming to PlayStation

Treyarch took to Twitter to confirm that Iron Galaxy Studios has ported Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 for PlayStation consoles. The tweet confirmed that the games will be coming to PlayStation in July, but no specific date was announced. That the tweet mentions “PlayStation consoles” suggests that the ports will be available for both PS4 and PS5, but that remains to be seen. No built-in Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S ports Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 has been announced as of this writing, and it's likely to upset some fans that Xbox owns Call of Duty.

The Black Ops 1 and 2 PlayStation ports leaked weeks ago, and many assumed the projects would be announced at one of the latest major gaming events, such as Summer Game Fest or PlayStation State of Play. The events came and went without announcement, although backend data confirmed that the games would indeed be coming to PlayStation in the near future. Now that we have an official confirmation, the next step is to see when exactly Black Ops 1 and 2 will be coming to PS4 and PS5, but fans shouldn't have to wait too much longer for more information on that front.

There are still a lot of details we don't have about the PlayStation ports Black Ops and Black Ops 2. For example, we don't know if it was celebrated Black Ops DLC packs will be baked in with the new releases, or if the expansions will require separate purchases. More information on that front should emerge sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, some fans may question why the Xbox isn't getting domestic ports for the games. While Call of Duty games are playable on Xbox via BC, it's safe to say that there are many who would prefer native ports of the games on their console. It is also puzzling why these Black Ops ports coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, as that seems like a huge missed opportunity. If fan demand is high enough, maybe we'll see these classics Black Ops games make their way to more platforms in the future.
