A well-known Xbox Game Studios insider has provided an update on The Elder Scrolls 6 and Bethesdahas long been rumored Fall-out remasters. The new claims suggest TEST 6 could come between the two Fall-out remasters, although its release now appears to be further away than some Bethesda fans might have expected.
On June 11, 2026, the only trailer for the sixth main line The Elder Scrolls the game turns eight years old. Although Bethesda claims the project is progressing well, some vocal fans have become increasingly frustrated by the lack of significant TEST 6 updates. That situation is largely due to the fact that the game was announced about half a decade before it entered active production in 2023, after Starfields release. At the same time, it has long been rumored that Bethesda is working on remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegasbased on a combination of leaks and insider reports. However, modernized versions of the two post-apocalyptic open-world RPGs have yet to be officially announced.
Bethesda's first Fallout Remake/Remaster possibly coming in 2027
Microsoft insider Jez Corden gave an update on all of these projects in the latest episode of the Xbox Two Podcast. “I don't know how true this is, but one thing I heard was that Fall-out remasters is probably a little further away than people think,” Corden said around 02:02:13 of the May 22 episode. He later clarified that he doesn't expect any of the Fall-out remasters will hit the market before 2027, when he expects to see one of them. Given a leaked internal product roadmap pointed to the existence of a Fallout 3 remaster as far back as 2023, which seems the most likely candidate for a 2027 release, while a modernized version of New Vegas may come later.
Discussing next Elder scrolls game in the same episode, Corden said the project is still “pretty far away” from completion. Elaborating on that claim, he estimated that the long-awaited open-world RPG will most likely be released a year or two after the first Fall-out remaster, i.e. 2028 or 2029. The claim is consistent with Bethesda's recent comments, including a March 2026 interview in which executive producer Todd Howard asked fans to pretend TEST 6 had not been announced, indicating that the game was still not ready for release at the time. Corden's estimate is also broadly consistent with contemporary AAA development cycles, which now typically stretch to about five years. For reference, TEST 6 reportedly entered full production in late 2023.
Potential Bethesda RPG Release Roadmap for the Rest of the Decade
-
2027: Fallout 3 remaster
-
2028–2029: The Elder Scrolls 6
-
2029–2030: Fallout: New Vegas remaster
Corden didn't present his launch window estimates as leaks, but as educated guesses based on what he's learned about Bethesda's current projects. The two Fallout remasters are believed to be handled externally, possibly by Oblivion Remastered developer Virtuos, based on previous reporting. If Corden's broad estimates prove correct, a modernized Fallout: New Vegas re-release might not arrive until the next decade.

A 2030 release for Fallout: New Vegas remaster would make sense if Bethesda wanted to align it with the game's 20th anniversary. However, the company has not been very sentimental about anniversary times with similar projects, such as Oblivion remastered was shadowed shortly after the original game's 19th anniversary. Corden also predicts that Fallout 3 remaster comes roughly 19 years after the original RPG. If that pattern holds, the apparent two-year remaster cadence would point to the modernized version of the New Vegas arriving in 2029 rather than 2030.
