Baldur's Gate 3: Every Intelligence Skill, ranked
Baldur's Gate 3 rewards players for gathering and using information, and there's no better way to do that than through Intelligence Skills.
Baldur's Gate 3 shows the magic contained within DnDwith players able to choose from various classes that grant such abilities. Of these, the wizard is arguably the most obvious, with their command of the web. Regarding a DnD campaign, players will find various items to help them, where all such intelligence boosting items are essential for such magical builds as they use it for their spellcasting. Items discovered that provide bonuses to or with intelligence will be incredibly valuable and can lead to powerful magical builds.
Updated October 15, 2024 by Hamza Haq: In Baldur's Gate 3 intelligence and spellcasting are naturally linked like two sides of the same coin. What buffs intelligence also buffs spellcasting, if indirectly, and vice versa. This makes items that increase the power and reliability of spells desirable items for Intelligence-based characters, and are often more useful than just a flat increase in INT. Of course, stat buffs will always have their place, but as the game progresses into the later acts, their value starts to diminish in the face of OP items that may not necessarily directly contribute to intelligence, but buff intelligence classes are all the same.
7 Hat by Sharp Caster
Ensures that spell attacks are never critical failures
Any character that invests in Intelligence i Baldur's Gate 3 is a spellcaster in some capacity, meaning items that facilitate spellcasting directly benefit them. Hat by Sharp Caster is a helmet that makes it so that every time a spell attack is a critical failure, meaning the die rolls a 1 or 2, it rerolls the die.
What this means is that spell attack rolls are much more likely to hit and are less dependent on the gamble compared to other types of attacks. It's like the player has a permanent advantage on these types of rolls with the assurance that they can never fail catastrophically. For spellcasters, there are few things more worth it than this.
6 The pointed hat
Grants a bonus to Persuasion checks based on the user's Intelligence modifier
- Found in a chest in the Circus of the Last Days behind Lucretious.
Dialogue is an important part of Baldur's Gate 3, with many pivotal moments involving it. Some classes are naturally better at maneuvering dialogue than others, with wizards not having much of a knack for it.
The pointed hat grants some fluency in engaging in dialogue, granting a bonus to Persuasion checks equal to the user's Intelligence modifier. Given that wizards are one of the main classes that use intelligence, wearing this hat can be a useful choice for some dialogue-heavy parts of the game.
5 Infernal Rapier
Uses the Spellcasting Modifier for Attack Rolls
- Given via dialogue in Wyll's quest in Mind Flayer Colony.
Although Intelligence is mostly associated with wizards as they are the main class to use it, other subclasses use it in addition. Eldritch Knights and Arcane Trickster Rogue scales with Intelligence for their spellcasting.

Baldur's Gate 3: Best One-Handed Weapon
If players want a better chance of fighting the hordes of Absolute in Baldur's Gate 3, then look for these one-handed weapons.
Wizards cannot use Infernal Rapiersince it's a grapple and not a staff, but Eldritch Knights and Arcane Trickster Rogues have the required skill. As such, this weapon can be useful for those classes since it uses the spellcasting modifier for attack rolls, and since they also scale with intelligence, it can be a valuable item.
4 Markoheshkir
Legendary +2 Quarterstaff that imbues the user with elemental magic
Because intelligence-based classes, and indeed all types of spellcasters, are Markoheshkir is one of the best legendary weapons in all Baldur's Gate 3. It's a +2 quarterstaff with a unique effect that makes it incredibly strong. When equipped, Markoheshkir increases spell save DC and spell attack rolls by +1, allows the wearer to cast spells on themselves without consuming a spell, and gives them the ability to imbue themselves with elemental magic.
Markoheshkir is strongest in the hands of an elemental caster like Evocation Wizard. This is due to its special ability, Kereska's Favor, which imbues the caster with an element of their choice: lightning, thunder, poison, fire, cold, or acid. A character imbued with lightning, for example, will also gain two lightnings (Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning) as well as a direct increase to their lightning damage and increased resistance to lightning. On top of that, this buff lasts until the next long rest or until Markoheshkir is unequipped. It is an incredibly powerful weapon for casters, especially those who rely on Intelligence.
3 Crooked Headband Of Intellect
Increases Intelligence to 17
- Drops from Lump the Enlightened in the Blighted Village.
Ways to boost stats will naturally be valuable things for players to achieve. But that one Crooked headband by Intellect is not as useful on wizards due to the class already having a high intelligence score.
The Warped Headband of Intellect can be valuable for any other classes that require a boost in Intellect, especially Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster, as they also require other stats for their builds. Since Intelligence increases the probability of hitting an enemy with a spell, Warped Headband of Intellect can be a strong early acquisition for these classes.
2 The mirror of loss
Increases any ability by +2
- Found inside the house of sorrow.
The first mirror can be found in the Gauntlet of Shar, albeit broken. At the end of Shadowhart's questline, players visit the House of Sorrows, which they can interact with Mirror of Loss to potentially increase all abilities by +2, including Intelligence.

Baldur's Gate 3: Reasons Why Shadowheart is the main character
While players can choose anyone as their main character in Baldur's Gate 3, it can be argued that Shadowheart is the true protagonist of the game.
Locked behind some dialogue controls, the mirror can increase Intelligence by +2, a buff that can be stacked with other items that increase the ability. However, players need to come sufficiently prepared, as it can be a bit tricky to pass the necessary dialogue checks.
1 Aunt Ethel's hair
Increases an ability by +1
- Given by Aunt Ethel after reducing her health to 20% with non-lethal damage activated in her boss fight.
An item that can increase a player's ability score by +1 will always be important to obtain. Aunt Ethel's hair does just that and increases the player's abilities by +1.
Obviously, the +1 bonus the hair provides is extremely valuable, but players can get the item as soon as they dismount the nautiloid if they so desire. The buff is also permanent, providing an incredibly early item that will last until the end of a playthrough, and one that can stack with other people's bonuses.
