Which you try each of Temtem: Of the Swarm deadly challenges, fending off hordes of Tems in the process, you'll be able to acquire a number of different upgrades. Whenever your chosen Tem levels up, you can choose from a selection of techniques and equipment to enhance their capabilities. While techs are very valuable and expand your options for attacking the incoming swarm, Gear instead provides passive bonuses that can modify and strengthen those techs or the Tem itself.
Temtem: Swarm has a large assortment of gear available at the time of writing, but not all gear was created equal, so this guide will break down some of the most universally useful items you can acquire during a run. Of course, when considering what gear to add to a build, it's important to consider your playstyle and the Tem you're using, as certain gear will prove to be much more valuable in certain builds and with certain playstyles.

Temtem Swarm: How To Upgrade Gear
Upgrading gear is a great way to make your Tem hard to beat in Temtem: Swarm. Players struggling with it can check out this guide.
Best gear in Temtem: Swarm (in general)
This section will discuss the best equipment to choose in most circumstances, regardless of your chosen Tem and general playstyle. These are almost universally applicable when trying to strengthen your build, making them solid choices in most situations:
- Holster: The holster is a simple but powerful piece of gear that adds an extra projectile to any variety of techniques you have. This affects a surprising number of techniques, including several that don't fire a normal projectile (like Houchic's Tentacle Slash, which summons buzzing tentacles near enemies.) This is almost always a great choice, unless you're avoiding ranged techniques for some reason. or other.
- Volgon scale: The Volgon Scale increases all the damage your Tem deals, making it one of the easiest and most universally applicable tools in the game. This will improve any techniques that deal damage, so it's always a good option. It can even be stacked with element-specific damage boosters like Third Eye or Motherboard to pump your damage even higher.
- Sonar: The sonar increases the area of your attacks, meaning projectiles will be larger and the AOE of any AOE effects will be larger. This is great for tearing through swarms and holding enemies more effectively, making this a great pick.
- Steam pack: If you fire some projectiles, the Stimpack is awesome. It increases your rate of fire, greatly reducing the lag between shots for all multi-projectile attacks. This gets even better if you manage to reduce the cooldown of that attack as well.
- Kismet lens: A good choice if you like critical hits, the Kismet Lens raises your critical probability, makes critical hits easier, and helps you dish out extra damage.
- Resuscitation Kit: Sometimes the swarm can outmaneuver or overwhelm you, and your Tem will be defeated. This is where the Reanimation Kit comes in, offering two revivals when fully upgraded to help you escape from otherwise dire situations. While it won't help in actually fighting the swarm, it will at least help you get back into the fight if things go wrong. This is a little less useful in multiplayer as you can be revived by the efforts of your allies.
- Kusanagi: Kusanagi is a bit more situational than the previous options and increases your damage against Mino-Bosses and bosses, making it a great mid-game choice. This is especially true if you've unlocked extra Gear Slots on your chosen Tem, allowing you to activate all of your tech synergies while leaving a slot free to pick this up.
While these implements are useful in almost any situation, it's important to note that many Tem techniques can be upgraded if you pick up the appropriate equipment. For example, the Tornado technique can be upgraded to Tornado+ if you have the Protein Bar in one of your gear slots, allowing you to fire multiple tornadoes in a cone and easily sweep through groups of enemies.
Because of this mechanic, it's often worth prioritizing equipment used in these synergies early on, giving you access to these powerful techniques faster.
