8 Gutted and heroic strikes
Lucanis and Davrin
- Lucanis: Recess
- Davrin: Heroic Strike
Lucanis and Davrin have their differences, but together they work incredibly well as a heavy attack duo. They work best as a mage Rook, as both tend to get up close and personal with their combat.
The combination of Eviscerate and Heroic Strike allows Davrin to apply the Overwhelmed status effect, which will increase Stagger damage on the enemy. Enemies that are staggered cannot move or attack, so when Lucanis uses Eviscerate with Davrin's Heroic Strike to detonate the Overwhelmed status, players can deal damage and immobilize their target.
7 Final Rites and Shred
Emmrich and Harding
- Final Rites: Emmrich
- Shred: Harding
Emmrich's necrotic damage skills combined with Harding's ranged attacks go well together, and their combined abilities make their team all the more powerful.
Harding's Shred is another ability that grants high Stagger, but it also applies the Sundered status, making enemies more vulnerable to all types of damage. When Emmrich uses Final Rites, it detonates Harding's Shred. Not only does this combo unleash intense damage, it also weakens the enemy significantly, making them vulnerable to all kinds of skills thanks to that Sundered status.
6 Death from Above and debilitating shots
Davrin and Bellara
- Davrin: Death From Above
- Bellara: Enfeebling Shot
The elf duo Bellara and Davrin are a good pair to put together, especially when Davrin has Death From Above equipped and Bellara has Enfeebling Shot. Together, these skills act as a fuse and detonator, resulting in a big bang when used.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – 8 mistakes that can ruin a playthrough
To get the most out of their Dragon Age: The Veilguard walkthrough, players should avoid making these mistakes.
When using Death From Above, Davrin summons baby griffon Assan down to attack enemies. When Assan does, the move deals Stagger and detonates if an enemy is Weakened. That's where Bellara comes in, as her Enfeebling Shot applies the Weakened status. Players should use Bellara's Enfeebling Shot first and then have Davrin summon Assan to perform Death From Above, and the enemy won't know what hit them.
5 Debilitate and Icebreaker
Lucanis and Neve
- Lucanis: Weakened
- Neve: Icebreaker
The chemistry between Antivan crow Lucanis and Minrathous detective Neve extends into their combat abilities, as the two have a particularly powerful combo move. Much like Davrin and Bellara's combo, Neve and Lucanis can apply and then detonate the Sundered status when using their skills.
Lucanis must first use their Debilitate skill, which deals necrotic damage and applies the Sundered status. Neve then cools things down with his Icebreaker ability, which deals cold damage and detonates Sundered.
4 Enfeebling Shot and Dragonfire Strike
Bellara and Taash
- Bellara: Enfeebling Shot
- Taash: Dragonfire Strike
Taash and Bellara are one of the best companion duos in Dragon Age: The Veilguardas they complement each other fantastically and can do massive amounts of damage together. They also have a combo attack move that can be triggered by using Bellara's Enfeebling Shot and Taash's Dragonfire Strike. As with Bellara's combo with Davrin, Taash and Bellara's combo ability focuses on applying the weakened status to enemies with Bellara's Enfeebling Shot. Taash can then detonate it with her Dragonfire Strike.
This can become a particularly potent combo when Taash and her Dragonfire Strike are upgraded, as the ability applies the Burning status when used. If upgraded, the Burning status becomes even more fiery and burns with more power. Not only can this combo deal tons of damage, it can also set enemies on fire and keep them burning for a while after being hit.
3 Debilitate and Final Rites
Lucanis and Emmrich
- Weakened: Lucanis
- Final Rite: Emmrich
Lucanis and Emmrich are a necrotic powerhouse duo. These companions are great when paired up in general, but they can also apply the Sundered status and detonate it when they combine their Debilitate and Final Rites abilities.
For those looking to create a necrotic wound, Emmrich and Lucanis are excellent choices. However, this combination of abilities adds some extra damage to their already powerful skill set. The damage from the igniter and detonator combo of Lucanis's Debilitate and Emmrich's Final Rites makes pairing the two well worth it. Besides that, the staying power of their necrotic nature makes them all the more appealing.
2 Icebreaker and Shred
Neve and Harding
- Icebreaker: Never
- Shred: Harding
Harding's varied abilities combined with Neve's ice magic can make for great combos. When combining Neve's Icebreaker skill and Harding's Shred, the pair can apply the Sundered status to enemies and then detonate it to deal damage. Players should use Icebreaker as Neve first, as this is the primer ability. Set this off with Harding's Shred, and the detonation will deal some nasty wounds to the bad guys.
In addition to the primer and detonator combo, Harding and Neve's abilities also complement each other and work especially well when paired with a warrior Rook. Their varied abilities and their healing can keep a warrior Rook going during the toughest of fights, while that killer combo of Shred and Icebreaker makes them all the more helpful in battle.
1 Dragonfire Strike and Entangling Spirits
Taash and Emmrich
- Dragonfire Strike: Taash
- Entangling Spirits: Emmrich
Last but not least is the odd couple, Taash and Emmrich, who can eat away at enemies' strength with their combo skills. Emmrich can apply the Weakened status to enemies with his Entangling Spirits skill, which also deals necrotic damage. Once the enemy is weakened, Taash can come in with his Dragonfire Strike to detonate the weakened enemies, dealing a burning damage.
Despite the two not getting along as well as some of the other companions in The craftsmanTaash and Emmrich are one of the best companion duos for players to have because of how well their abilities work together. Their combination of necrotic and fire damage can lead to significant damage, while their combination of Dragonfire Strike and Entangling Spirits can take out enemies and clear the battlefield in an instant.
