Berserk officially returns this fall when Guts Hits Rock Bottom

Elfhelm is gone. The spirits have left the world. Griffith has stolen Casca away to Falconia, and Guts sinks into the deepest pits of despair that Berserk setting the stage for what can only be a terrifying end game. Berserk Volume 42 was released last March and ended with the Kushan Empire invading the Seahorse as Gut's trauma of losing Casca to Griffith has once again left him a shell of his former self – completely unable to even take on the Dragon Slayer. Over a year later, Berserk Volume 43 will be released on October 27, 2026collects chapters 374 to 382 of Kentaro Miura's masterpiece manga.

Pre-order Berserk Volume 43

With only one chapter currently unpublished, Berserk Volume 43 will be the last volume of the manga for the next few years. Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga take the time to adapt Kentaro Miura's notes to the rest of the Berserk manga. With Guts at his lowest point ever and an Eclipse-level tragedy about to happen any chapter now, the Eastern Exile arc of the series is becoming Berserks darkest chapter in decades.

Guts Lets Go of All Hope in Berserk Volume 43

Guts in Chains

Berserk Volume 43 will be a harrowing read for many fans, especially those who have followed Gut's story for years (if not decades) now. After losing Casca in volume 42, Guts has fallen into a deep depression – one that has completely drained him of all will to live. The Eastern Exile arc takes the story to the Kushan, deepened Berserks world and play even more as the Kushan Empire prepares for an all-out war against Griffith and Falconia.

Chapters 374 through 382 are filled with rich world-building, intense action, and Gut's most awkward character “development” yet. At least Eclipse has the reassurance that Guts would go on to become the Black Swordsman at the start of the manga, but in the Eastern Exile arc, it really feels like the world is coming to an end – and what little fire Guts had left drives him with it.

7 Best Dark Series That Rival Berserk

Berserk is a legendary dark seinen, but quite a few other dark anime compete with it.

Dark Horse's description for Berserk Volume 43 reads,

After escaping the horrific devastation of Elf Island only to be boarded by unknown raiders, the crew of Sea-horse discover that they have penetrated the territorial waters of the vast Kushan Empire!

Sinking into his own personal darkness, Guts hardly seems to care when Kushan leads him away in shackles, even as Roderick, Farnese, Serpico, Morda, Isidro, Schierke and the other survivors are taken in as refugees. But they find no firm ground on land either… for a great council of the Kushan tribes gathers to debate plans for war—against Falconia and its fearsome, matchless ruler Griffith, the Lighthawk!

The council's policies are dangerous, but even more dangerous is that the power of the hawk is already among them, striking through murderous sorcery. At this critical moment, Gut's companions cannot trust him to help… and in fact, is he to blame…?

Berserk Volume 43 will also feature a full-color fold-out illustration as well as an afterword by the series' current writer Kouji Mori, and an additional series focusing on the late Kentaro Miura. The greatest dark manga series of all time is officially reaching a boiling point, and Berserk fans will want to make sure they're caught up as Guts literally descends into its darkest era yet.

Berserk Volume 43 will be released on October 27, 2026 for $14.99.
