After some practical time with Battlefield 6s first season, I can say with certainty that some of its new additions are going to be great—really good. Rogue Ops, the first phase of Season 1, will add three new weapons to the general arsenal when it releases on October 28th, and despite being radically different additions, each has things to be meta-defining. In fact, these three new Battlefield 6 weapons are probably among the best in their respective weapon classes.
The most recent Battlefield 6 The Season 1 playtest only had three new weapons available for use — the three from the first phase of the season specifically — but that turned out well, as it gave players a fair amount of time to test each of them, both in-game and on the range. With that experience behind it and after some serious consideration, it's clear that these weapons will be dominant in the next one Battlefield 6 meta.
All Weapons in Battlefield 6 Season 1, Explained
Season 1 of Battlefield 6 adds five new weapons to the game over the course of its three distinct phases — Rogue Ops, which releases on October 28, California Resistance on November 18, and Winter Offensive, which releases on December 9:
Rogue Ops Weapons:
-
SOR-300SC (Carbine)
-
Mini Scout (Sniper)
-
GGH-22 (side arm)
California's Weapons of Resistance:
-
DB-12 (Shotgun)
-
The M357 Trait (Revolver)
Winter Offensive Weapons:
-
The Ice Climbing Ax (Melee)
The hands-on preview featured only the three weapons from Rogue Ops, the first phase of Battlefield 6 Season 1. All of these weapons were excellent for several reasons, all of which are listed below.
SOR-300SC: A carbine to dethrone the M4A1
First of the bunch, the SOR-300SC might not seem like much at first, but this subtle addition can turn into a machine when used properly. It has the lowest rate of fire of all Battlefield 6s carbines, but it more than makes up for it with 33 damage, making it tied with the SG 553R and M417 A2 for the highest DPS carbines in the game. It has a much more moderate recoil, and its control stats are what give this new carbine the edge over others; with the right mounts, it can quickly become a bit of a laser beam.
The SOR-300SC is entirely dependent on use case, as it is unlikely to ever hit an accurate player with a great M4A1 load at extremely close range. That said, it provides enough range variability at the other end of the distance spectrum to make it much more impressive in most other engagements. Plus, with the second-fastest base reload speed of any carbine, you can keep it up and fire more often.
The Mini Scout: Battlefield 6's new best sniper rifle
The other new weapon coming in Season 1 is another tribute Battlefield 4s fastest bolt-action rifle, the Scout Elite. The Mini Scout Sniper Rifle is a smaller, faster weapon perfect for Recon looking to do some damage on the fly. It chambers and reloads quickly, and it is more mobile than any other rifle in its class. Additionally, it has tighter recoil than any sniper in the game to date, a ten-round magazine, and lightning-fast ADS speed.
All that speed should technically come at the expense of damage, but it's a trade that's completely negated in practice. The mini scout only does 80 damage compared to the other one Battlefield 6 sniper rifles' 100. Still, thanks to the same 1.75x headshot multiplier, it's an almost imperceptible difference for any sniper worth his salt. There's already so much to like about this new sniper; it's fast, light and just as deadly as the others, plus it works even better for Recon players who want to slap on a 4x scope to get up close and personal.
GGH-22: Definitely not a Glock
Last and least impressive is the new sidearm, the GGH-22. The Glock-inspired sidearm is nice, but overall, there's no statistical difference here to write home about. It's interesting for what it is and what it's inspired by, but with a 15-round magazine, a slightly higher muzzle velocity than the standard P18 pistol, and not much else, it's certainly not a showstopper. Beyond revolvers, though, it's not like anyone can really expect much variety from the sidearm class.
The GGH-22 is also the only new weapon coming in Battlefield 6 Season 1's first phase which doesn't appear to have any new weapon packs.
New weapons and weapon packs are coming in Season 1
While the GGH-22 sidearm isn't nearly as impressive an addition, it's just as welcome as the other two powerful weapons added to the roster with the launch of Battlefield 6 on October 28. What makes these new weapons even more exciting is the addition of several brand new weapon cosmetics for each, plus packs for all other existing weapons as well. These packs are also appreciated, as it should be nice to see some variety. After all, if the playtest was anything to go by, the two primary weapons of Rogue Ops will likely be seen quite a bit on the battlefield.
