2024 marks the 85th anniversary of Batman's first comic book appearance, and DC has done just about everything they can think of to celebrate. Although we are now in the final months of the year, these celebrations are not over yet. Joining everything DC has already done to mark Batman turning 85 today is a brand new Funko Pop, its design one of the most unique yet for a Dark Knight Pop inspired by Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.
Before Christian Bale's Batman clashed with Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight, the caped crusader had to deal with the Scarecrow. Whether it's the movies, games, or comics, the Scarecrow's main tool in making Batman's life miserable is his fear toxin. The way Batman appeared in Batman Begins while under the influence of that toxin is one of the most strikingly terrifying designs the hero has ever had, and now that look has been turned into a Funko Pop.
It wasn't Batman who saw himself this way in Batman Begins when he was exposed to the toxin, but Dr. Jonathan Crane whose perception of Batman was warped when he was sprayed with the same terror gas he had stepped on. Seeing Batman as more of a black skeleton than a human in a black suit, that eerie image of The Dark Knights Funko Pop will be available exclusively on Funko's website via the link in the box below as of 12:30pm EST today (October 7, 2024).
The scariest Batman ever looked
And it was all a vision in a guy's head, until now
Fear Gas Batman Funko Pop is $15 and while it's not available for purchase as of this writing, Funko has already listed it as sold out. This usually means that there is only one wave of stock and once that stock is gone, Pop will be gone forever. There is no guarantee that this will be the case, of course, and there is a chance that there will be more batches in the future. However, if you like this pop and don't want to risk paying a high price for it via a resale site at a later date, it's probably best to pick it up while it's available at Funko.
Fear Gas Batman Funko Pop
One of the many things DC did to celebrate 85 years of Batman, this unique and incredibly creepy Funko Pop is modeled after how The Dark Knight appears to Jonathan Crane after he ingests some of the Scarecrow's fear toxin in Batman Begins.
As mentioned above, there have been quite a few things released to celebrate Batman turning 85 this year. DC teamed up with Mattel to create a very special collection of Hot Wheels Batmobiles, each featuring a miniature Batman figure, as well as a Batman 85th Anniversary Little People Collector Set. There have also been a couple of very special Lego sets, including a toy brick that recreates Gotham's skyline in Batman The Animated Series, and a Lego Batmobile based on its design in the 1960s live-action show.
