Asta’s Most OP Moments, Ranked

Fans of the widely celebrated Black Clover franchise know that its main character, the energetic and affable Asta, is one of shonen’s most determined protagonists. Despite being born without magic in a world where the ability to use the arcane arts is everything, the boy never allowed himself to become hopeless. His dreams of becoming the next Wizard King helped to push him during training and to overcome even the worst of obstacles, a trait that inspired millions of fans across the globe.

This led to several scenes in which the hero exceeded even the most loyal fans’ expectations by unleashing a power that no one ever could imagine he possessed. These moments served as a reminder not only to the audience but also to the characters that inhabit the world. From destroying powerful opponents in seconds to breaking the laws of reality, Asta has many scenes that prove just how powerful he truly is.

It Took a Single Five-Second Knock-Down to Defeat Lucifero

Introduced as the most powerful devil in the entire Black Clover franchise, Lucifero was seen for several years as the biggest threat to the heroes and the peace they fought so hard to protect. The Devil King proved himself to be a dangerous and virtually unbeatable opponent from the first moment he appeared on screen, easily defeating most Captains and high-ranking soldiers in the Clover Kingdom.

With no one else to overcome this threat, Asta was forced to utilize his full power, perfectly merging with his demon friend, Liebe, to achieve the True Devil Union, a powerful skill that can only last five seconds. Thanks to this skill, Asta was able to obliterate Lucifero without the villain even knowing what happened, a feat that no one else in the world could achieve.

Asta’s Anti-Magic Completely Obliterated Zagred’s Heart

Black Clover is a series that never truly shied away from depicting harsher topics, such as the horrifying Elf Tribe Massacre, an event that would leave a permanent mark on the franchise’s world. While this tragedy was thought for years to have been orchestrated by the first Wizard King, the story would go on to reveal the sinister Zagred, a powerful and cruel Devil, as the one behind it.

This monster used the pain felt by the Elves as a way to manipulate them into resurrecting him, granting him power over words again. Zagred’s ability to alter reality by simply speaking made him an incredibly tough opponent, with no one but Yami and Asta being able to deliver any lasting damage. In the end, the protagonist was able to obliterate the Devil’s heart with a single slash from his sword, charged with enough Anti-Magic energy to prevent his regeneration.

Asta Awakening His Black Form Against Ladros and Completely Dominated the Fight

The battle against Ladros was one of the most important events in Asta’s life, serving as a deep and personal challenge for the boy to grow up. The villain was born without a magical attribute, preventing him from utilizing magic and making him the target of relentless mockery. What differentiates him from Asta is the fact that instead of working hard to overcome his situation, he allowed himself to be used as a test subject for unethical experiments.

Thanks to this, Ladros went from a weak mage to an arrogant fighter capable of absorbing and redirecting the magic from opponents. He was a stark contrast to the hero, who spent his entire life training to reach the same level as his peers. Despite this and the fact that he spent most of the fight on the ropes, Asta was able to overcome Ladros by imbuing himself with Anti-Magic, awakening his Black Form, and proving himself superior despite his inherent weakness.

7

Asta Was Capable of Adapting Yami’s Technique Without Ever Practicing It

Before Lucifero could fully physically manifest in the human world, he tried to utilize the flesh and energy of his followers to create a massive, armor-like being without a soul so he could possess it. This beast was not only mighty in terms of raw strength, but it was also extremely resistant to magic attacks, capable of withstanding the attacks of two captains and continuing the battle as if nothing had happened.

Just when the battle reached its most dire point, with even Captain Yami having been captured and about to be killed, Asta decided to let go of his inhibitions and unleash an extremely powerful attack. He imbued his Demon-Slasher Katana with Anti-Magic and utilized his own version of Sukehiro’s signature attack, Dimensional Slash: Eqinox, cutting through magic and space. The boy was able to do this despite having never been taught the skill.

6

Asta Easily Humiliated the Fearsome Devil Twins

Lilith and Naamah were twin Devils feared throughout the entire world due to their advanced control over fire and ice magic. Their combat skills were so refined that it was said neither of them had ever felt genuine fear during combat, at least until Asta crossed their paths. Shortly before their encounter, the hero had completed the Devil Binding Ritual, allowing him and Liebe to combine their powers at will.

Asta and Liebe merged, utilizing the Devil Union Mode to unlock the full potential of their Anti-Magic. With this power, the protagonist was able to effortlessly dominate the fight, causing the twins to experience terror for the first time in their lives. This battle was the first time Asta showcased the true power of his bond with Liebe, and it still causes shivers to run down fans’ spines.

5

Asta Awakening Zeten Shocked Even the People Teaching Him

After witnessing Sister Lily being transformed into one of Luciu’s Paladins, an unexpectedly dark moment, and being sent away via her magic to Hino Country, Asta realized just how much difference there was between his and the main villain’s abilities. This pushed the boy to train harder than ever before, asking the inhabitants of this powerful nation for help.

Ichika and Ryuya put the boy through relentless training until he was able to master Zeten, the ability to concentrate Ki, or life energy, at a specific point of the body to launch a devastating attack. Asta learned this skill faster than most other combatants, manifesting it for the first time by completely disintegrating a bamboo stick from the inside out, shocking even his masters.

4

Dante’s Gravity Magic Could Not Stop Asta’s Power

Hailing from the Spade Kingdom and with the desire to utilize Yami’s Dark Magic to fulfill his dreams of absolute power, Dante was one of the best villains ever introduced during the Black Clover series. Besides outstanding control of the arcane forces, this antagonist was also armed with a special type of power that proved to be a major issue for the heroes: Gravity Magic.

This ability made it almost impossible for the heroes to damage the villain, as he could manipulate reality around him and avoid their attacks. Yami, whose trust in Asta proved absolute, managed to create an opening, allowing the boy to imbue the Captain’s katana with massive amounts of Anti-Magic and cut Dante down in a single attack.

3

Asta Saved Yuno From an Experienced Wizard Without Any Weapons

Although Asta’s achievements became more impressive with time, as the boy never stopped training to unlock new levels of power, there is something truly special about the first time he surprised audiences. Right before the beginning of their adventures, Yuno and Asta were preparing to leave their village, only for the former to be attacked by a former Magical Knight named Revchi.

The protagonist did not hesitate before fighting the thief, even though he had nothing but his physical strength to face the experienced mage. His determination and bravery awakened the Five Leaf Clover Grimoire, giving Asta his famous sword and allowing him to quickly defeat Revchi. This scene marked the beginning of the hero’s journey, warning audiences to never underestimate his power.

2

Asta Was Capable of Defeating a Fighter That Not Even the Golden Dawn Squad Could

Modified at a young age to become a living weapon for the Diamond Kingdom, Mars was a brainwashed wizard forced to become a cruel monster. Not only were the alterations to his body and mind the cause of his best friend’s death, but they also turned him into an arrogant man who saw weakness as a plague that should be eradicated, causing him to kill any opponent deemed lesser, including Yuno.

Lamentably, Mars’ augmentations proved to be far too much for the novice members of the Golden Dawn Squad, even the most talented like Asta’s rival. Still, once the protagonist joined the battle, the Diamond Kingdom’s warrior was quickly overpowered. Asta rapidly proved himself as the superior combatant, with his determination being powerful enough to even break the mind control spell afflicting Mars.

1

Asta Defeating Lucius Remains One of the Manga’s Best Moments

Throughout his journey, Asta faced several overwhelmingly strong opponents, each with unique abilities that could overpower even the most experienced wizards. Nonetheless, there was no villain as vicious and powerful as Lucius, the twisted mastermind behind most of the series’ events. Unlike most other opponents, the final antagonist had control over several rare and strong types of magic, making him a virtually invincible fighter.

Thanks to the support of Yuno, as well as his arduous Zeten training, Asta was able to navigate the plethora of attacks and defenses Lucius possessed, managing to overwhelm the villain. In what most fans consider the most impressive battle finale in the series, the protagonist’s strength was capable of breaking reality itself, allowing him to demolish Lucius and save the day once again.
