Derek's love for gaming came at an early age when his parents first brought home the Nintendo Entertainment System. Since then, countless nights were spent hunting ducks, stomping turtles, exploring far-away planets, and combing through dungeons with a trusty sword and shield. Originally raised exclusively with Nintendo products, Derek's perspective grew to include other platforms ranging from Sony to Microsoft, the PC and more. As his views and opinions grew, so did the desire to connect with other gamers and video game fans. In 2011, his writing adventure began on his personal blog, eventually joining the GameRant team in 2015. He currently covers everything from features and guides to the latest video game news.
The latest live update for ARC Raiders is starting a new in-game event called Forgotten Relics along with a new project and a long-awaited change to how free loads will work. For many long-time fans, freeloading has been a thorn in the side of players as it essentially removes the risk of losing gear, allowing the user to jump into a match at the cost of having to start with inferior gear. Without risk, some ARC Raiders players use it as an opportunity to troll others, as there is no risk or downside to dying.
As part of ARC Raiders latest update, Embark Studios finally addresses the freeloading controversy. For a limited time, Night Raid and Close Scrutiny map conditions will have the free loadout options disabled, meaning players will have to risk their own gear if they want to participate in scenarios that have better loot. Embark confirms that this is only a limited test that may be expanded over time. While it may not be on the global scale that many wanted, this could be a first step for the game, as Embark will likely be looking very closely at feedback and player data.
