Astro Bot's awesome music should pave the way for a music themed level
Astro Bot has a reverence for music
As any fan of the Astros' previous performances will know, music has always been a highlight Astro Bot franchise, and that's certainly true of its latest entry. Astro Bots main theme gives fans everything they could want from a modern mascot platformer, delivering a joyful, catchy tune that captures the game's light and calm essence. This central theme is then tweaked throughout the game to better capture the atmosphere of a level's theme, such as the cave-based levels having a more mysterious musical tone.
Another highlight Astro Bots soundtrack can be found in every galaxy end level. These five tiers each revolve around a specific PlayStation franchise, such as God of war, Horizonand Uncharted. Along with wielding iconic weapons and powers from these franchises and battling through environments based on each series, players are treated to a remixed version of each IP's musical theme.
On top of all these direct examples of Astro Bots clear reverence for music, the acclaimed platformer also pays homage to PlayStation's long history of music-related games. Loved rhythm games like rapper PaRappa, Sorry Lammyand Patapon are all referenced in Astro Bot via their VIP bots.
Astro Bot 2 should have a music themed level
In the aforementioned final levels of each galaxy i Astro Botplayers get a new casual mechanic inspired by the PlayStation series that the level revolves around. For example in God of war level players get Kratos Leviathan Ax which can be used for both melee and ranged attacks. About one Astro Bot sequels ever happen, these levels need to make a return, and it would be fun to see Team Asobi experiment with more distinct types of game mechanics, like those found in music-based games.
In a hypothetical Astro Bot 2it would be great to see a level based solely on a game that PaRappa the rapper or Patapon. Instead of Kratos' axe, Nathan Drake's gun, or Aloy's bow, these levels could give the player temporary rhythm-based powers that they would use to get through the themed environment. With Astro Bot already with such an obvious reverence for music and classic rhythm games, this gameplay integration would feel like a natural progression for the series.
