The last of us Has become one of Sony's biggest and most important franchises. Ever since its pioneering original title was introduced in 2013, The last of us Has become a arousing success that has even had a major impact on the future of Sony's first score titles. Its achievements not only created a sequel, but also led to the creation of an equally successful TV series that will have a second season later this year.
With how big the first two titles in The last of us Series have been, of course there have been any question marks whether a third title will be made. Although there may not be a massive need for a proper third post in The last of us Franchise, Naughty Dog can continue to keep the franchise alive with spin-offs or posts in the same world. Of course, even if a new Last of us part would happen, it would not have to center around Ellie, whose story was undoubtedly wrapped in Part 2. Thus, the next game can expand the world even more by focusing on brand new characters and places.
After all, recently media in The last of us Series have really taken steps to expand the world and the characters in the game even more. The third episode of the TV series, where fans got a much deeper dive in Bill and Frank's relationship than the games offered, is a good example of this. Of course, a new game probably would not focus on these two, but given that the series did not show any reservations to expand less aspects of franchise's Lore, a new title that is not a direct sequel can do the same.
The last of us could move outside of his home country
Perhaps one of the biggest things a new title in The last of us Series can do is move to a whole new place. The first two games already covered several parts of the United States, but there are still as much unexplored territory as the first two games never covered. Neil Druckmann and his team are still spoiled for elections if they want to show how the Zombie Apocalypse affected other parts of the country.
In fact, Naughty Dog can make an even bold move by putting another game in the universe outside the United States to show the Cordyceps virus's greater impact. The TV series already took a step in this direction, as the beginning of section 2 shows a professor in Jakarta, Indonesia identified the virus itself and fears that the city should be bombed because it has no cure or vaccine. Given that the game depicts a global pandemic but takes place over America, Naughty Dog was able to move outside the country to show Cordycep's impact on a much larger scale.
Naughty Dog can make an even more daring motion by putting another game in the universe outside the United States to show the Cordyceps virus's greater impact.
Sony must continue to promote IP as the last of us
In addition, as much as the consistent remakes/remasters of The last of us Can be tiring for fans, it should be important for Sony as a publisher. Recently, Sony's CFO Hiroki Totoki made a rather bizarre comment that claims that Sony does not have enough original, internal created IP. While this comment may confuse some fans, it is worth pointing out that Sony does not give its IPs a sufficiently long durability and tends to leave them to a specific console generation so to allow The last of us Living on can help mitigate this issue a little.
It is probably for the better that naughty dog moves away from The last of us For temporarily after the second season of the show drops, especially when Stydio works on its new title, Intergalactic: The herethern Prophet.
