While life simulation games like The Sims 4 can be fun for the first few hours, playing without a plan can result in boredom.

The developers are still working hard to ensure that Sims 4 players can have an enjoyable and refreshing experience as the months go by. This article shows players what additions have been made The Sims 4 in the latest content update, which is directly linked to the Life and Death expansion pack.

Many of the features added The Sims 4 the base game with the October 22, 2024 patch were related to the upcoming expansion pack, Life and Death. Regardless, players who don't plan on purchasing the pack at launch will still get access to a bunch of useful ghost-related gameplay features. Here is an overview of what was added The Sims 4 basic game:


  • Create a ghost (kids and older)
  • Ghost Create-a-Sim turn on/off feature
  • Toggle between occult Create-a-Sim options
  • Turn older pets into ghosts in Create-a-Sim
  • Reactions at the moment of death

  • Sims will react uniquely to the death of others based on traits and relationships. Experience everything from sobbing after a loved one passes away to choking on the death of a stranger.
  • Ghosts can now be created in Create a Sim for children through older ages.
  • After moving on, Ghost Sims gain a new set of needs in place of the classic, living Sims: including Goo Waste, Ethereal Sustenance, Otherworldly Slumber, Spooky Diversions, Ethereal Bonding, and Apparition Cleansing.
  • At the moment of death, Sims are now given the option to “Become a playable ghost” or “Become a free-roaming ghost”.
  • After the death of a marriage partner, two married Sims will no longer be married, they will become widows. But there's a new interaction that allows them to “Request to Stay Married” so they can restore their marital status.
  • Sims can WooHoo with the Grim Reaper again.
  • Improved behavior of autonomous ghosts such as reducing the frequency of ghosts breaking things and creating annoying ghost “byproducts” ie. puddles.
  • Added a new outdoor image category in build mode called “Life Event Activity” to help players find content for funerals, weddings, and more.
  • Sims for babies, toddlers and children taken by social workers go to the Household menu in Manage Worlds instead of being deleted.
  • Added a new bonfire item called Fieldstone Bonfire Pit to the Base Game.
  • There is an option on Tombstones/Urns to manually switch to the other regardless of whether you are indoors or outdoors. Before, it always changed automatically when it was brought in or taken out.
  • We have added 10 new “true black” colorways to 10 different bass playing shoes:

  • If you have Get to Work (Aliens), Vampires, Werewolves, Realm of Magic (Spellcasters), Island Living (Merfolks), or the upcoming Life and Death Expansion Pack, you can click on a Sim's urn or tombstone to choose from a selection of which gravestones are to be used. That Sim who wasn't a vampire but was a little too obsessed with vampires? Yes, they can rest forever with a bat-themed headstone now.
  • There is now a Merfolk Urn and Tombstone for players with Island Living.
  • Players can switch occults while in Create-a-Sim if they have the necessary occult packs. This does not remove progress on a sim that is currently being created (within reason).
  • Players can create older dogs, cats, and horse ghosts in the Create a Sim with the Cats and Dogs or Horse Ranch Expansions.
  • We fixed an issue affecting gamers with hybrid GPU laptops where the game defaulted to DirectX 9 on devices with NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards instead of the expected DirectX 11.
