All 7 times the monster trio was defeated in the story, ranked

The Monster Trio is an incredibly powerful group of pirates that fans have seen quite a bit of over the years One Piece. This trio consists of Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, Zoro, the Combatant and the Straw Hat Pirates Swordsman, and finally Sanji, the fighting chef of the Straw Hat crew. The monster trio has recently emerged as one of the strongest units within a pirate crew, and they continue to grow as the Final Saga progresses. Although strong, the Monster Trio has even faced several defeats over the years, and some of them were much worse than others.

Monster Trio vs Aokiji

• Bow: Long ring Long land bow

One of the Monster Trio's very first defeats came against Aokiji at Long Ring Long Land. In this arc, Kuzan encountered the Straw Hat Pirates and decided to eliminate Robin. The Straw Hat Pirates ran to her defense, with Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji all fighting Kuzan. But all failed to take him down, and if the admiral had wished, he could have eliminated them all then and there.

Luffy was eventually frozen to the bone, while Zoro and Sanji were also taken down effortlessly by Kuzan.

Monster Trio vs CP9 (Water 7)

The Water 7 Arc of One Piece gave fans their first look at Fractures within the Straw Hat Pirates. Due to the lack of unity among the crew, they were overwhelmed by their enemies – the members of CP9. When CP9 revealed their true colors, they were able to easily overwhelm the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy was taken down by Lucci, Zoro was sent flying by the Leopard Man as well, while Sanji, who later went on the Sea Train, was also unable to save Robin and would have died if he pushed any further.

This was another defeat for the Monster Trio. However, they reversed this later, when they successfully defeated CP9 in Enies Lobby.

Monster Trio vs Gecko Moria's Army

One of the Monster Trio's most embarrassing defeats came against Gecko Moria's army. Gecko Moria's minions were everywhere in Thriller Bark and their goal was to steal the shadows from the Straw Hat Pirates. Much to the fans' surprise, the Monster Trio were the first to fall. Luffy had his shadow stolen and given to Oror, while Zoro was beaten and his shadow given to Jigoro of the Wind.

Sanji had his shadow taken and given to Penguin Dog and obviously the Monster Trio was completely defeated. Of course, they returned to action later to claim their victory, as always.

Monster Trio vs Pacifistas

The island of Sabaody Archipelago posed many problems for the Straw Hat Pirates, and the Pacifistas was certainly one of them. When the first Pacifistan appeared on Sabaody, the Straw Hat Pirates were able to handle it after much effort. With the help of the incredible teamwork of the entire group, the first Pacifistan was taken down.

However, Sentomaru appeared with more pacifists right after, and the crew was completely overwhelmed. Zoro, Sanji and Luffy knew they couldn't defeat another one, and as a result they decided to focus on running, which is worse than defeat.

Monster Trio vs Kizaru

At Sabaody, the Monster Trio also faced off against Admiral Kizaru. Just as Luffy and crew were getting ready to escape, Admiral Kizaru appeared, and this came off the back of Luffy beating a celestial dragon.

Of course, Kizaru was sent to the island immediately, and he decided to eliminate the crew, one by one. Had it not been for Rayleigh, Luffy would have been captured and others, like Usopp, would have died. The monster trio would have been completely eliminated that day, if the Dark King and Bartholomew Kuma were not present.

Monster Trio vs Kuma

The person who eventually crushed the Straw Hat Pirates on the island of Sabaody Archipelago was none other than Bartholomew Kuma. This happened immediately after the crew faced defeat at the hands of Kizaru. While they tried to run, Kuma decided to use his Nikyu Nikyu no Mi to eliminate the crew and destroy them.

Kuma split them apart and sent them to different parts of the world, and although this was mainly done to save the crew, it still counts as a defeat for the Straw Hat Pirates and the Monster Trio.

Monster Trio vs Punk Hazard Forces

In post-time jump off One PieceThe Straw Hat Pirates haven't lost that many battles. But they really lost to Caesar and his forces in Punk Hazard. Despite being strong, the Monster Trio really needed a wake-up call and it came on this island, before they went to Dressrosa.

Luffy ended up losing at the hands of Caesar in silly ways, while both Zoro and Sanji were taken out by the Yeti Cool Brothers, which was nothing but embarrassing for them. For the last time, the Monster Trio was completely defeated on this island.
