Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart game seems to have a big improvement
The newly confirmed Mario Kart game for Nintendo Switch 2 appears to be a big improvement over its predecessor.
The January 16 announcement trailer confirmed the presence of the extra button on the upcoming console. While previous Switch 2 leaks were accurate about the shape and placement of the new key, the real thing isn't actually marked with a “C.” Instead, the square button seems almost completely featureless. Since the sources who testified to the presence of the letter “C” were otherwise correct about other aspects of the Switch 2, it is likely that the console's prototypes did indeed feature a C button, but Nintendo chose to do away with that label prior to the announcement.
A Nintendo Switch 2 leak correctly predicted the lack of “C” on the new button
The only source to accurately predict the look of the new Switch is OnLeaks, who shared accurate 360-degree renders of the Switch 2 a week before the console's official announcement. But even this well-known home electronics leaker had no information about the purpose of the home key next to the button.
While the button's featureless design doesn't give any clues as to what its function might be, someone may have already figured it out. A data miner who inspected the latest version of the Switch OS recently suggested that the extra button will be used for chat-related functionality. This theory is based on some references to “Campus” discovered in Nintendo's latest firmware. Campus is said to be a feature that includes both voice and group chat for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. This discovery raised the possibility that the alleged C button on the Switch 2 prototypes stood for “chat”.
More information about the mystery button will likely emerge by April 2025. A Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd, and will be followed by a series of hands-on preview events that Nintendo will host around the world. which offers fans a chance to sample the upcoming device early. As this tour will continue until early June 2025, it is the earliest that the Switch 2 is expected to be released.
