Officially introduced in Naruto Chapter #261, June 13, 2005, Jinchuriki were once an integral part of the overall power system in Naruto and Boruto franchise. Naruto Uzumaki, the original protagonist of the series, was a Jinchuriki and one of the nine that existed in the world. Even the main villain of the original Naruto series, Madara Uchiha, ended up becoming the Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails, further highlighting its importance in the story.
But in Boruto era, 21 years after their introduction, Jinchuriki are now dying one by one. What's more, the major change in the power system that has been developed with the last few arcs of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex officially indicates that the Jinchuriki system is dead and no longer relevant in the overall plot of the story. Instead, they have been replaced by a completely different power system.

Might Guy and Rock Lee are sensational Taijutsu users, but they have been surpassed by the God of Taijutsu.
Jinchuriki are no longer relevant in the story of Boruto with the introduction of karma and human-tailed beasts
Jinchuriki was a primary power system in the original Naruto story. Basically, a Jinchuriki is a vessel in which a tailed beast is sealed. Usually Jinchuriki were used for Tailed Beast warfare between villages. By sealing powerful Tailed Beasts that stood as masses of chakra inside people, these weapons kept every village in check and almost acted like nuclear weapons in the world. It was Naruto Uzumaki who revolutionized the world by befriending these Tailed Beasts and becoming their leader for the very first time.
“Since the Bijuu have unimaginable power, all countries wanted to use them for military affairs. A Jinchuriki is something that exists to control this power in the Bijuu.” — Chiyo explains the Jinchuriki, Naruto Chapter #261
Thanks to Naruto, Tailed Beasts were seen as more than just weapons and were allowed to roam the world freely. Naruto Uzumaki was one of the only two remaining Jinchuriki at the end of the series, with the other being Killer B. Unfortunately, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations chapter 55, it was officially released. Kurama was officially dead, and Naruto was no longer a Jinchuriki.
“Normally when a Jinchuriki's Biju is extracted, they die. But that doesn't apply to you. The Biju chakra simply disappears. It may look like you're dead to others, but you're just in a temporary state of shock. Don't worry, you'll wake up soon. The price to pay for Baryon Mode is my life, but you really have to go. will have superhuman strength anymore. So if you overdo it, you'll soon join me, but until that day, be well Naruto — Kurama's death causes Naruto to lose his Jinchuriki status, Boruto Chapter #55
what more, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexwho officially began his new arc in Chapter 35 on June 18, 2026, is apparently moving away from the Tailed Beast power system. Boruto has introduced the power of Karma to us long ago in Chapter #1. Since then, this force of Karma has become the primary system of strength in the world. In Two Blue Vortex, yet another power system pertaining to Tailed Beasts was introduced to replace the Jinchuriki system. This is the system of “Human Tailed Beasts”. Essentially, by fusing the powers of a tailed beast with a human, a system far superior to the Jinchuriki system has been invented by Mikio Ikemoto in Boruto. This was again evident in the Mamushi arc, which ended its run in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 33 on April 20, 2026.

Why Killer Bee stands as Boruto's final Jinchuriki
With Boruto officially having moved away from the Jinchuriki system forever, Killer B remains the last standing Jinchuriki in the story. After the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Gyuki, the eight-tailed beast, decided to stay with Killer B because of their friendship. B won't live forever, and once he dies, the Jinchuriki system will officially end with him.
There are some other characters with the power of a tailed beast, such as Shinju Jura, who is the incarnation of the Ten Tails themselves, as well as Himawari Uzumaki, who has the power of Kurama within her. However, Mikio Ikemoto, the creator of Boruto, has made it abundantly clear that they are not Jinchuriki at all. In fact, Jura is the incarnation of the Ten Tails in a humanoid form. In other words, Jura is the Ten Tails themselves and not a human with the power of the Ten Tails. Likewise, Kurama officially confirmed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 25 that Himawari is similar to Jura in that she is not a Jinchuriki but a beast with a human tail. All these things taken into consideration confirm to us that the Jinchuriki system is officially dead and Boruto has bid farewell to it forever.
“You're no ordinary Shinobi. In fact, you're even a bit different from the Jinchuriki…those who have the tailed beast in them. You're human, but if anything, you're more like me and Jura.” — Kurama explains why Himawari is not a Jinchuriki, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #25
After Bee, the Jinchuriki system will officially die in Boruto
The jinchuriki system supported Naruto franchise for a very long time and stood as one of the best additions to it. Unfortunately, with the threat of Otsutsuki being introduced, villains are simply far too strong for the Tailed Beasts to make any difference in battle. Even someone as strong as a Tailed Beast Jinchuriki would only barely manage to hold their own against the likes of Otsutsuki. Naruto Uzumaki, with his Six Paths Power, still needed help from Sasuke to stand his ground against the likes of Momoshiki. This clearly shows that the gap in strength between the Tailed Beasts and the villains of the Boruto series is only widening.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex welcomes its new Hashirama successor
Hashirama was a legendary Hokage with the powers of Wood Release in Naruto. He now has a new successor in Boruto.
As such, there was a need to move past the Jinchuriki system and introduce something that would allow the series' protagonists to keep up with monsters like the Akatsuki and Shinju. That being said, the Jinchuriki system will last as long as Killer Bee lasts, but it only exists symbolically in the world. It doesn't play a significant role in the story and has basically already been cut from the main plot. When Bee dies, the system dies with him, and it will indeed be a sad day for all Naruto fans. Nevertheless, the new system of humanoid Tailed Beasts is basically very similar, but an upgraded form that allows the user to extract more power from the Tailed Beasts and allows them to compete on equal footing with powerful monsters like Otsutsuki. In that sense, we're definitely excited to see this system develop further and create exciting confrontations for the future of the franchise.
All Boruto chapters by Mikio Ikemoto, supervised by Masashi Kishimoto, are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
