When GTA 6 pre-orders went live, Rockstar drove a Rhino tank straight through the showroom and released a massive amount of screenshots, giving us our best look at Jason yet – and some fans have already pointed out an uncanny resemblance to Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2.
Although both game universes are completely separate, there have been previous nods to a connection. In GTA 5, for example, you can find a book titled “Red Dead” with the author listed as “J. Marston, which is probably a biography written by John Marston's son, Jack. GTA Online pays tribute to Madam Nazar with the arcade machine “Nazar Speaks”, while El Rubio's estate has old photographs of the German family from RDR2.
Rockstar loves to insert these deeply cut easter eggs into their worlds, so the idea of a weathered portrait of Arthur Morgan hanging in a modern Leonida home doesn't feel out of the question. In fact, fans have jumped over coincidences and are now speculating that Arthur may be related to Jason.
“What if Jason is actually a descendant of Arthur Morgan?” noted Hunter Players. “The resemblance is absurd. The look, the features, and even the expression make it seem like Arthur was simply born in the modern era. If Rockstar makes this CANONICAL in GTA 6, honestly… I wouldn't be surprised at all.”
Similarly, YouTuber Game With Dave wrote, “Crazy theory: What if these two characters are connected by blood? The resemblance is hard to ignore.”
There are countless posts drawing comparisons between the two, with The Cassini Games sharing a side-by-side with over 32,000 likes, while popular Rockstar content creator Synth Potato got 11,000 likes after saying, “Jason could absolutely pass as a direct descendant of Arthur Morgan, he's the spitting image of him in some ways, if I wasn't even going to make it GTA 6.”
Does the theory really hold water?
Rockstar has a penchant for rugged outlaws, so it could easily be a coincidence that the two look so alike. Again, looking at how visually distinct protagonists like Niko Bellic, Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton and Trevor Philips are, it feels purposeful to jump straight from Arthur Morgan in RDR2 to Jason in GTA 6.
But as other fans have pointed out, Jason also bears a striking resemblance to a young John Marston. Not to mention that Arthur's son, Isaac, died before the events of Red Dead Redemption 2. Maybe there isn't a secret bloodline after all – maybe Rockstar really only has one type.
