Rem's sudden appearance in Re: Zero Season 4, Episode 9 surprised many fans, especially since she had been in a comatose state with no activity or spoken lines for years. Yet, amidst the fallen bodies of Subaru Natsuki's allies in the watchtower, Rem suddenly appears and decapitates Subaru, echoing the first time he met his death at her hands.
Apparently, some unseen force can manipulate Rem's body. It raises the possibility that she has been possessed or that she may not even be the real Rem at all. However, it remains strange that Subaru never came across Rem's or Emilia's bodies, while Beatrice was able to simply disappear into nothingness, leaving an unsettling feeling that something in the situation is not right.
Meanwhile, many theories have surfaced about what happened after Shaula went into her killing machine mode. She may have killed Julius, Eridna and Ram before Subaru teleported from under the dunes of Augria and inside the watchtower. Perhaps someone from the witch cult has been antagonizing Subaru's group since they reached the tower.

Subaru Natsuki continues to experience strange blackouts in the Re: Zero Season 4. Shortly after these blackouts, he finds himself surrounded by the dead bodies of witch animals, including Meili, whom he seemingly strangled before the previous episode ended. With this ominous development, it is not an exaggeration to say that Subaru could have been possessed before Emilia and Beatrice found him unconscious in the third floor library.
IN Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 10Subaru must urgently piece together what is happening to him while trying to decipher the terrifying message written on his arm. “Subaru was here” likely serves as a hint that something far more disturbing is afoot. It also raises the possibility that there may be two versions of Subaru Natsuki existing at the same time and that whoever is truly responsible for the murders must be eliminated before his mind completely breaks down.
