What is Raid and how to join the event

Infestations, unlike other events, must be discovered by exploring the map, and players must explore the Toxic Valley, Forest, Ash Heap, Savage Divide, Mire, and Cranberry Bog areas to find them. Different attacks can appear at the same time, so choose your battles wisely.

Unmonitored raids will circulate around other play zones until players defeat the factions causing the disturbance. When an attack occurs, the faction leading the event will push away the local enemies. Ex: If you are exploring the Savage Divide and are near a Blood Eagle base when there is a Super Mutant Infestation, then you must fight Empowered Super Mutant enemies in that zone.

These empowered enemies will deal more damage and be harder to take down. Plus, they'll also be accompanied by an elite level boss enemy. Each Infestation boss will have their own unique weapon and suffer a random mutation to spice things up more.

Ideally, players will want to join an Exploration Public Team or Event Team to clear out raids more efficiently. Remember, the rewards are guaranteed 4-star legendary weapons or armor, so there's a very good reason to dive into these potential death traps.

Other rewards may include new Legendary Mods such as Vector (Armor Mod), which increases the accuracy of VATS from a very long distance by 10% (up to 50%), or the Tarnished (weapon mod) which increases the damage the lower the condition of the equipped item is (up to 120%).

So there you have it, that's what Infestations is all about Fallout 76. If you want to check the full changelog (which includes many tweaks and quality of life improvements), you can check out the official release post here.
