What's inside the Great Jaw Location in Subnautica 2?

When I made my way through the depths of Subnautica 2s Tufa Towers region, I was surprised when I suddenly stumbled upon a massive The clam Leviathan. Also known as big jaw, this massive creature patiently waits for players to happily swim into its clutches, silently hoping they don't notice the trap waiting to be sprung. For those of you willing to tempt fate, this guide will show you where to find Great Jaw Clam Leviathan in Subnautica 2.

Massive creatures lie in the deep, but which one is the greatest of them all?

Clam Leviathan Location Overview – Subnautica 2

  • The Great Jaw Clam Leviathan is found in Tufa Towers region, in the southwest corner of Proteus. It is about 350 meters southwest of the Lifepod.

  • You can use Wander Blackbox as a guide. When you reach the pit where Wander is, head south into the depths.

  • While you don't technically need them to reach the Great Jaw, having the high capacity air tank and tadpole vehicle will make reaching and navigating the area around the Clam Leviathan much easier.

  • The center of the large jaw contains lithium deposits, which must be broken with the Sonic Resonator before you can collect them. You'll also find two Portable Oxygen Dispenser fragments, which unlock the blueprint when scanned.

  • Watch out for the purple rope-like threads in the center of the pod. When they stumble, they will make the big jaw close around you.

Start from Lifepod:

To reach Great Jaw, the best place for you to start is where your journey began, the Lifepod. Here's a short list of things I found useful when I set out for Clam Leviathan:

Point

Use

High capacity air tank

This upgrade to the standard air tank increases your total oxygen delivery to 120 seconds, nearly doubling the standard air tank's 75 second oxygen time. It should be obvious that an increased oxygen supply in Subnautica 2 is important. The drawing can be found in the wreck northeast of the large jaw. The data card is found on the left immediately after entering the wreck. You need Lithium x1 and Titanium x2 to create the necessary Plasteel Ingot in a processor.

Tadpole

Although not required, building the small tadpole vehicle will allow you to quickly reach the depths of the Tufa Towers region. This is more a matter of convenience, as you can certainly reach the goal without it, but it makes it much easier.

Air bladder

For players who choose to go without tadpoles, be sure to bring an air bladder. This will help you quickly reach the surface if you run into trouble.

Beacon Materials

When you reach the Great Jaw, you can create a lighthouse to mark the location – if you've unlocked the blueprint. There are several Beacons to scan in the wreck north of the Great Jaw. You can then use the Habitat Builder to create a Beacon anywhere. It requires Titanium x1 and Copper x1.

Be sure to set the Lifepod – or a nearby Habitat you've built – as the place to print your new body if you die. You don't want to end up on the opposite end of the map at a Biobed you forgot you built earlier in the game.

Go to Wander Blackbox:

If you haven't yet visited the region, the best way to go in the general direction is to use the Wander Blackbox signal. You can do this in the “Signal” tab in the main menu.

When you have the “Wander” signal active, walk southwest along the edge of the cliff that separates the shallow part of the ocean floor from the deeper region to the south. You can follow this cliff directly to Wander.

Go south to the Great Jaw Clam Leviathan:

When you reach the large spider crab-shaped coral that covers the pit where the Wander Blackbox is, you can turn south and head over the cliff into the depths. You should see a large portion of the wreckage not too far ahead.

As you walk past the wreck, you'll see the massive Great Jaw Clam Leviathan come into view. You'll notice that there's an Oxygen Tunic right at the edge of the cliff, allowing you to get plenty of air before entering the center.

Be careful! If you go below a depth of 100m, you will lose oxygen efficiency, meaning your air will run out much faster. This is especially dangerous when you're heading into the middle of the Great Jaw, and your focus is on the purple tripwires. Don't be like me, who choked three times in a row because I was so focused on trying to avoid the jaws of death.

Great Jaw Leviathan Clam Rewards:

If you make it to the center of the Great Jaw, there are two important rewards:

  • Lithium: This incredibly rare resource can be found inside the central pod. You must craft and use the Sonic Resonator to break open and collect the deposits.
  • Portable Oxygen Dispenser Blueprint: This incredibly useful device can be spawned when you scan the two in the middle. One sits just outside the central capsule, and the other is inside the capsule, under a piece of Metal Salvage.

Q: Will the Sonic Resonator cause the release cables to break?

A: Yes and no. I was able to charge and shoot the Sonic Resonator through a purple wire. However, the recoil can push you back through a tripwire, so make sure you pay attention to what's behind you inside the pod.
