PC players can currently claim and download a 2024 horror game that is usually worth $15 completely free until May 16th. At such a standard price, it shouldn't surprise anyone that this is an indie horror game, but it's an area where indies definitely excel. More experimentation goes into indie horror games than larger ones, and where this one stands out is its retro-futuristic sci-fi elements.
To download this horror game for free, PC users will need the Epic Games Store. That said, this title should not be confused with the typical free games from the Epic Games Store. These include the choice-based narrative game The Telltale Batman: Shadows Edition and the co-op turn-based tactical RPG Sunderfolk, which will be available from May 14th to May 21st.

Steam's Free-to-Keep promotion has 6 upcoming 100% free games
The back of Steam's Free-to-Keep campaign reveals six games that will be made available for free in the coming weeks/months.
Claim Lost in the Hole without paying a dime
The game in question is Lost in the Holedeveloped by Horizon Studios, and players who download it for free before 4:00 PM PT/7:00 PM ET on May 16 can keep it forever. In it, players travel back to the 1970s but find themselves in an advanced science lab that creates a unique retro-futuristic, yet grounded, sci-fi horror experience. A biological experiment in said lab has gone awry, and the player is tasked with delving into its depths to obtain a key sample related to the outbreak. In doing so, players will deal with traps, mutants, and their own fear. The developer describes the atmosphere as dark and tense, with skill, quick decisions and courage required to play the game.

Lost in the Hole won't be a horror game that's for everyone, but at the expense of free, it's definitely worth checking out. $15 isn't much, but maybe somewhere in the world, it's lunch. So it's hard to ignore for anyone looking for a new horror game to play. The only good news is that it's not the only free games promotion happening right now.
There are more PC games available for free right now
If Lost in the Hole doesn't seem like the game you want to play right now, 5 notable PC games can be downloaded and/or played 100% free at the time of writing. The TellTale Batman games and Sunderfolkthe aforementioned free game giveaway from the Epic Games Store, is among the largest available and can be picked up via EGS until 8:00am PT/11:00am ET on May 21st. PC users have a week to claim them, as of this writing.
Similar Lost in the Hole, Devil's Island is another game currently being given away for free on EGS without attention to the traditional free game. Devil's Island is an open world survival game where players investigate the source of the apocalypse on an island and explore a story that combines religion, aliens and more into something quite unique. It's also available until May 16, but expires much earlier in the day, 3:11 AM PT/6:11 AM ET to be exact. At IndieGala, PC users can also download The brave little cloudan actioner designed mostly for kids, for a limited time (which is currently unknown).
Finally, Steam is hosting a free weekend for GreedFall: The Dying Worldprequel to the original and the last game to come from Spiders before it is liquidated. Steam users have until May 17th at 10:00am PT/1:00pm ET to download and play the game, but unlike the others here, access ends at that time. Anyone who wants to play it for free should prioritize it over others here, but the good news is that anyone who wants to keep it can buy it at a 30% discount until May 27th as well.
