007 First Light has officially gone gold

007 First light has gone gold, signaling that the upcoming action-adventure game is ready to ship. Development is pretty much done, and while that doesn't rule out things like a day one patch, it does mean 007 First light being prepared to go out into the world.

At this point, any further delays to 007 First light are unlikely. It's not impossible for a game to be delayed after going gold, or the announcement of going gold at least, with Cyberpunk 2077 be an excellent example. When and if that happens, it's usually not a good sign, but generally speaking, this is good news. It means we are getting closer 007 First lightrelease date May 27.

IO Interactive is sharing another PC spec update for 007 First Light, this time with some extra requirements for playing at resolutions above 1080p.

Developer and publisher IO Interactive took to social media to make this announcement for 007 First lightand also encourages fans to pre-order to get a free upgrade to the deluxe edition. That's a pretty compelling reason to pre-order, even if pre-orders are increasingly frowned upon by large sections of the gaming community. The offer is available through launch, and 007 First Light'The current pre-orders include a handful of new skins for the game, namely the Day of the Dead outfit, the Desert Explorer outfit, the Silent Anchor outfit, the Gentleman Operator outfit, the Gleaming Pack gadget skin, and the Agent's Mark weapon skin.

Going Gold is an important development milestone for any video game, obviously because it signals the end of base game development. Two weeks is a typical period for a “Gone Gold” announcement, so there is no major change to this for fans. But it's not a big change for active developers either, not necessarily depending on the game. IO Interactive will no doubt continue to support the game, fixing bugs and possibly creating DLC for 007 First light. It remains to be seen what comes post-release for the title, but release is what's next for it.

When May 27th hits, players can expect to spend around 20 hours playing and hitting 007 First light. Of course, some players may be faster, others slower, as this all depends a lot on the playing style. But it's a solid length for the upcoming James Bond game, no doubt.

How the game is ultimately received remains to be seen, but GameRant editor-in-chief Anthony Taormina recently played three hours of 007 First light. Summarizing his experience with it, he wrote: “I can't speak for the whole game, but what I played had so much variety in both what you do from moment to moment and how you approach a given challenge. About First light is the start of the next era of 007 video games, then the James Bond franchise is in great hands.”
