E-Day can start around September

It's been a while since we last had a major update for Gears of War: E-Day, the first new main series Gears of War title since Gears 5 in 2019. Outside of a reveal trailer, and a few hints here and there, it's been largely quiet.

That should change in June, as Xbox will have a dedicated Gears of War: E-Day Direct following its larger Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest. But before then, it looks like we have a better idea of when E-Day will launch, and it looks to be September.

Last night, during WWE's Backlash Premium Live Event (PLE), the company announced a new PLE for its AAA lucha libre sub-promotion that will take place on September 11th and 13th. Presenting sponsor? None other than Gears of War: E-Day.

That should mean E-Day will be released around that timeline, potentially around the week of September 7th.

The Xbox is back, but can it return to its former glory?

The future of Xbox is unclear, but the console brand is determined to make a comeback.

WWE is no stranger to having video games as presenting sponsors, as the opening match of Backlash was presented by Invincible VS. That game was released on April 30. Past sponsors include Doom: The Dark Ages, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and 2K properties.

Considering Summer Game Fest is right around the corner, it won't be too long before we get an official confirmation. Still, it's enough to get the hype train going.

This is how Xbox's slate shapes

As it stands, Forza Horizon 6 is scheduled to release later this month on May 19. Likewise, Gears of War: E-Day is being released in early to mid-September.

However, Xbox has several other titles in its pipeline, including Halo: Campaign Evolved and Fable. The remake of Halo's first campaign doesn't have a release date, but speculation following a Fanta campaign has fans believing it could be released in June. Earlier reports indicated that Summer was targeting Campaign Evolved, so the campaign only added to the speculation.

As for Fable, it's got a wider “Fall” window, something its developers doubled down on after rumors it could slip out of the 2026 gap and into 2027.

In short, it would make Xbox's 2026 lineup look something like this, barring delays:

  • Forza Horizon 6 – May 19

  • Halo: Campaign Evolved — June/July

  • Gears of War: E-Day — Around September 11th

  • Fable – Autumn 2026 (September, October, November)
