Sony may have secured exclusive marketing rights for Grand Theft Auto 6according to some recently appeared promotional messages that the company has targeted PlayStation users. The possibility seems all the greater given that this is neither the first nor the second indicator GTA 6 is getting a special marketing push from the PlayStation manufacturer.
From the moment Rockstar released its earlier than expected GTA 6 reveal trailer in December 2023, the company was clear with its platform strategy: current generation consoles only. The game won't even be coming to PC at launch, with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S being the only systems to have it on day one.

It's officially time to start worrying about Grand Theft Auto 6's release date
Grand Theft Auto 6 has now entered its final pre-release stretch where continued radio silence from Rockstar can still be seen as usual.
Sony reportedly urged PS4 owners to upgrade to PS5 in time for GTA 6
Sony is now reportedly reminding some PS4 owners who haven't yet upgraded to the PS5 that they will need to do so if they want to play GTA 6. As of early May 2026, several owners of the company's latest generation console have reported receiving a marketing email urging them to purchase the PS5. The screenshots attached to some of these testimonials suggest that Sony may have selected the group by targeting users who are still on PS4 and have wishlists GTA 6 on PlayStation Store. Whether that is the only condition for receiving the email, which has so far been discovered in English, French and Spanish, is unclear. Regardless, the one fact that Sony uses GTA 6 Promoting its gaming hardware indicates that it has struck some kind of marketing deal with Rockstar centered around its upcoming open-world game.
GTA 6 Trailer 2 has already been tipped about the PlayStation Marketing Deal
The latest wave of PS5 upgrades isn't the first indication that Sony and Rockstar have teamed up to promote the latter's next AAA project. The other one GTA 6 the trailer, which turned one on May 6, featured a “Caught on PS5” notice visible starting around the 2:42 mark. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive, also recently hinted that the publisher may have granted exclusive GTA 6 marketing rights to Sony Group. His comments, shared during the Las Vegas-based Interactive Innovation Conference in late April 2026, did not clarify the nature of the agreement, nor did they directly confirm that it even exists.
The PlayStation Store deals page is suspiciously empty right now
With GTA 6 just over six months after launch, many fans and industry watchers expect Rockstar to soon share gameplay footage and release details, possibly to mark the start of the game's pre-order period. That expectation has taken on new meaning as the PlayStation Store's deals page is currently blank, and doesn't take PS Plus-exclusive discounts into account, with a message saying the platform's next big sale will begin on May 13. This is the first time in years that the PS Store deals page doesn't promote an ongoing sale or discount, PS Plus benefits nonetheless. Combined with the reputation that the company has secured GTA 6 marketing rights, the blank page of offers has led some fans to speculate that a big announcement could come in the May 11-12 window, with Sony cleaning up its high-traffic PS Store promotions page to maximize attention around it.
GTA 6 is currently aiming for a November 19th release. It remains unclear whether the game's online component will launch on the same date or follow a few weeks later, as was the case with GTA Online 2013.
