After 16 years, One Piece introduces the official counter to Haki

Haki's power was introduced in One Piece in chapter 234 for the very first time, but it wasn't until chapter 597 that this ability was properly explained by Silver's Rayleigh. Haki is a power based on people's spiritual energy, and it provides sensory perception, offensive and defensive ability, and the power of intimidation, which has reigned supreme as the most reliable power in One Piece the world for over a decade now. With the recent appearance of King Nerona Imu in Elbaph, Eiichiro Oda has officially introduced the perfect counter to Haki in the form of the Omen, which Imu considers his military power.

Nerona Imu's Omen is the opposite of Haki in one piece

The Power of Omen was first introduced in One Piece Chapter 1180 of Nerona Imu. This power presents itself in the form of special black flames that Imu uses in a multitude of ways. Omen is very similar to Haki, as this power comes from the energy that exists within everyone in the world of One Piece, but there are important differences between the two.

Like Haki, it can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes. Imu's Omen, also known as Maki, can be used for almost anything. The first use of the Omen came against Roronoa Zoro in Chapter 1180, when Imu unleashed a powerful flame-like attack on him, completely knocking him out in the process. This power was then launched at Hajrudin and then at Sanji. Imu then showed incredible versatility with the Omen in the battle against Loki by shaping it into a morning star, a sword, and even a shield. Imu even used Omen to make himself gigantic in Chapter 1181, showing off the immense versatility of this power.

How Omen Parallels Haki in One Piece

To truly understand the similarity between Omen and Haki, we need to look at the original Japanese terminology used for the former. In Japanese, Omen is simply referred to as Maki, and the name alone makes it very similar to Haki. Maki itself consists of two words: 'Ma' and 'Ki', similar to Haki, which is written as 'Ha' and 'Ki'. The “ki” part in both of these words simply refers to energy. While Haki is spiritual energy, Maki is demonic energy. This puts them on opposite ends of the energy system in the world of One Piece.

In chapter 1181 of the manga, Eiichiro Oda officially mentioned that Maki's power actually exists within everyone. Again, this makes it very similar to Haki, but at the opposite end. Imu confirms that Omen is his military power, and is the power derived from jealousy that one uses to achieve one's goal. Basically, those who are corrupted by Imu by using covenants or otherwise can use the power of the Omen in a variety of ways, but Imu, being the Devil, thanks to the powers of his Akuma no Mi, is the one who has dominion over Maki.

All known Omen users in one piece so far

The power of Omen or Maki is absolutely immense and is mainly controlled by Nerona Imu, which can be clearly seen over chapter 1180 and 1181 of One Piece. However, Nerona Imu is not the only Omen user. Imu's Omen can also spread to other individuals. For example, Nerona Imu gave an omen to Sommers and Killingham in chapter 1180. With the power of this omen, they upgraded in terms of strength tremendously, as shown by Sommers gaining the ability to fly in the same chapter.

Similarly, when Imu grants the power of the Abyssal League to her five elders, they are also granted the power of the Omen, as evidenced by the black clouds of flame around their necks. The Holy Knights also have the power omen to a degree, which can be further enhanced by Imu by giving them an additional omen.

The fact that Maki is simply demonic energy means that all those affected by Imu's powers are users of it. This means that anyone who is Domi Reversi'd in One Piece gets a huge boost of Omen in all aspects of strength.
