In it Pokémon world, one of the most common types to find is the Normal type. These Pokémon can be found in grasslands, like the Hoenn-based Skitty, or near trees, like the bird Pokémon Pidgey. For many new trainers, it's common to have at least one normal-type Pokémon in their roster, such as a Bidoof or a Starly. This was also the case for Ash Ketchum, who captured a wild Pidgeotto at the beginning of his journey.
Since meeting the Bird Pokémon, Ash has caught countless other Pokémon, not including the Normal type. Ash has collected several great Pokémon for his overall roster, from the powerful Fire/Dark-type Incineroar to the fast Grass-type Sceptile. However, although the number is very small, Ash has also met other normal type Pokémon. The Pokemon in this list vary, including the sleepy yet formidable Snorlax to the fast and competitive Swellow.

Ash captured a giant horde of Tauros in Kanto
Professor Oak takes care of every Tauros in his lab
Often believed to be the male equivalent of the all-female species Miltank, the original Tauros variant hails from the Kanto region. In Paldea, the Wild Bull Pokémon is instead a Fighting-type, and can be Water- or Fire-type depending on the breed. These Pokémon are known for their hot-headed nature, which often leads to Wild Bull Pokémon's tendency to suddenly charge. If an entire horde of Tauros gets angry, a stampede will ensue. Ash has a group of thirty Tauros in his roster, who spend their time together under the care of Professor Oak.
In the episode “The Legend of Dratini” (which was not broadcast anywhere outside of Asia), Ash visits the Safari Zone. Hoping to catch many different Pokémon, Ash instead finds himself only catching various Tauros that happen to be caught in the Safari Balls he receives. Although Tauros are usually seen as a group, a lucky Tauros was chosen by Ash when he needed help with the Orange League. Happy, Tauros proved a helpful ally in the contest, even defeating an opponent's Venusaur.

Unfezant was the first Pokémon Ash caught in Unova
She has since grown into a loyal and helpful fighter
In the Unova region, the regional bird, the Unfezant, differs in appearance depending on its gender. While a male Unfezant has plumage on its head that looks like a worm, a female does not, although it is usually better at flying. The first Pokémon that Ash catches in the Unova region happens to be a wild female pied pigeon, which later evolves into a calm one while dispatching a horde of venipedings. Later, in the episode “An Amazing Aerial Battle”, while battling Gym Leader Skyla's Pokémon, Tranquill evolved into an Unfezant.
As seen early on, Unfezant is a peaceful Pokemon, and when threatened it usually prefers to flee rather than fight. But when it comes to training and battle, she is a very hard worker. In fact, she has been seen helping other Pokemon train, as was the case with an Archeops revived by Professor Juniper and Fennel. Like his trainer, Unfezant is confident and possesses a strong sense of justice, as well as a tendency to try to help however needed.

Staraptor absolutely loves to fight
The normal/flying type has a hard and fast fighting style
In the earliest routes in the Sinnoh region, you can be sure that several Starlys are lurking in the tall grass. Starling Pokémon are relatively weak when fighting alone, so many Starly tend to gather together to form a powerful horde. After evolving, Starly will then become a Staravia, and its combat power will increase. The evolved form of Staravia, Staraptor, is even stronger and even received a Mega Evolution in the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: ZA.
Staraptor, the first Pokémon Ash caught in the Sinnoh region, first debuted as a wild Starly that often helped Ash with scouting. However, after evolving, Staravia grew into a much more competitive Pokémon with a strong love for fighting. In fact, the Normal/Flying type would even become enraged if not chosen to fight, a trait that disappeared once it evolved into the Staraptor. By the time it was fully evolved, it had excelled at using moves like Brave Bird and Aerial Ace, and was very proud of the power it had achieved since its time as Starly.

Swellow is a very impressive fighter
Swallow Pokémon is even resistant to Electric-type attacks
Ash's Swellow, who first appeared as a Taillow, always proved to be a very determined fighter. Even though the Tiny Swallow Pokémon is a Normal/Fighting type, and thus weak to Electric-type and Rock-type moves, it still loved a challenging battle and wouldn't be afraid to face such attacks. In fact, Ash knew this and allowed Taillow to participate in challenging fights, especially after it evolved into Swellow. One such example is its battle against Tate and Liza's two Rock/Psychic type Pokémon, a battle that Swellow would win.
Swellow's unusual resistance to electric-type moves would also allow it to play a key role in the creation of Thunder Armor, an anime-exclusive move. During Ash's battle with Tate and Liza, Swellow and Pikachu teamed up to defeat the two powerful Pokémon. As such, Pikachu used Thunder to cloak himself and Swellow in a golden glow that increased their speed and attack. With this unique idea, the two were able to secure victory for Ash.

Ash's Snorlax has a legendary appetite
Snorlax has amazing stamina and a useful Movepool
Snorlax is a very popular Pokémon, and one of the original 151 creatures introduced in Generation I. Similar to Munchlax, Snorlax loves to eat. But while Munchlax tends to be more upbeat, Snorlax often snoozes when not eating. The Snorlax's large size allows it to have traits such as immunity (making it immune to poison), thick fat (giving it great resistance to ice and fire type moves), and even gluttony (making it eat a berry faster than normal). As seen in the anime, Snorlax are also great swimmers.
During his time on the Orange Islands, Ash met a wild Snorlax that lived on the Grapefruit Islands, where its constant eating put the islands in danger. After capturing the Normal-type, Snorlax became a common sight during Ash's later adventures. Although Snorlax can be lazy and gluttonous, it is nevertheless a powerful fighter and a loyal friend. In addition to being very strong and very agile, Snorlax can use helpful moves such as Body Slam, Ice Punch, and the legendary Normal-type Hyper Beam, which has often been seen in Pokemon champion.

Pidgeot is one of Ash's oldest and most loyal friends
Pidgeot later left the team for a while to protect other bird Pokemon.
Pidgey is the first known regional bird Pokémon, which first appeared in the Kanto region. It was also one of the Pokemon Ash hoped to catch at the start of his journey, but it wasn't to be. Instead, Ash would catch Pidgeotto, the evolved form of Pidgey. Unlike some of Ash's other Pokémon, Pidgeotto was always shown to be willing to battle with Ash and never argued with him. During his time with Ash, the Normal/Flying type proved to be a great fighter, often using moves like Wing Attack or Gust.
Over time, Pidgeotto was not used as often, losing its place as a main fighting Pokémon to allies like Bulbasaur and Squirtle. However, Pidgeotto later evolved into Pidgeot when it fought a violent Fearow who was harassing a horde of Pidgey. Hoping to take care of the other Bird Pokemon, Pidgeot left Ash's list for a long while. After winning the Masters Eight tournament at the end of the original anime, Pidgeot returns to rescue Ash and Pikachu from Team Rocket. Pidgeot gladly accepted Ash's offer to rejoin his team, since the Pidgey it had been watching over for so long since then has evolved.

Ash's Noctowl was a powerhouse in his Johto list
Noctowl is known to be Ash's only known Shiny Pokemon
Just like in the games, Shiny Pokémon are a rare sight in the anime. One of the most famous examples of a Shiny Pokemon in the anime is Metagross owned by Steven Stone, a powerful Steel/Psychic type that can Mega Evolution. Before the debut of Shiny Mega Metagross, however, fans first got to know Ash's Shiny Noctowl. Once a Pokémon that Wiseman tried to catch with traps, Ash was able to catch the Normal/Flying type instead with traditional fighting methods, thanks to Pikachu.
Like many of Ash's other bird Pokémon, Noctowl proved to be a great scout. Noctowl has been shown to have an unusually powerful hypnosis move, even being able to create illusions to either scare or comfort other Pokémon. During its time in the Johto region, Noctowl proved to be a smart and compassionate Pokémon, who had a strong sense of justice as its trainer. Noctowl would later be reunited with its trainer in the Sinnoh region, where it would use its psychic-type powers again during the Lily of the Valley Conference.
