A Pokémon fan artist shared his reinterpretations of the starting Kanto trio, such as Bulbasaur and its evolved forms, on social media for all to see. The Pokémon the fan artist said their versions of the Kanto starting trio were part of an effort to continue drawing art every day.
Known as the Seed Pokémon, Bulbasaur is the grass-type starter Pokemon Red and Blue. Bulbasaur is listed as the first Pokémon in the original Pokedex. As a Grass and Poison Pokémon, Bulbasaur is one of the first dual-type animals that young Pokémon Trainers can catch. When Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur and Venusaur, the bulb on its back blooms into a pink flower that can store and release solar energy. With high defenses and a decent move pool to draw from, Venusaur is considered the strongest grass-type Pokémon native to the Kanto region.

Pokemon Fan shares awesome reinterpretations of Bulbasaur and other Kanto enforcers
Although Bulbasaur and its evolved forms have received some fan-made changes in the past, a Pokémon the artist gave the Seed Pokémon a new look based on the creature its design was originally inspired by. On Pokémon subreddit, a Reddit user named NehGon shared his drawings of Bulbasaur and the other Kanto starters. For the Bulbasaur line, NehGon focused on the toad-like appearances of Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur. The redesigned Bulbasaur has a bullfrog body, with a cream-colored belly and a small bulb on its back. When they evolve into Ivysaur, its green leaves gain a pink coating on the edges, resembling poison ivy foliage. As for Venusaur, the fully evolved Seed Pokémon has a few wards adorning its body, along with a blooming lily of the valley plant atop its back.
Alongside the drawings of the Bulbasaur line, NehGon shared his interpretations of the Charmander and Squirtle lines as part of a daily art drawing regimen. NehGon's interpretation of Charmander leaned towards the Flame Pokémon's lizard-like design, as it has a thicker tail and wider eyes than its official design. For Charmeleon, the fin on top of the head is dinosaur inspired. NehGon's Charizard design kept the same color palette as the official Pokémon artwork, although it has a slimmer body and shorter arms compared to The Pokemon Company's design. Also, NehGon's rendition of Squirtle has a larger tail than the official artwork. As for Wartortle and Blastoise, NehGon drew robust designs of the Turtle Pokémon. NehGoh's Wartortle has red eyes, along with a chiseled shell covered in spikes. Blastoise's iconic water cannons are made of coral rather than metal, and various coral patterns adorn its arms and shoulders.
Fan interest in Kanto Pokemon has grown for a reason
NehGon's artistic redesign of the Kanto starters came just over a month after Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen was relaunched on Nintendo Switch consoles. Like the first remakes of Pokémon mainline game series, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen combined the Kanto region with Gen 3 game mechanics, such as Pokémon abilities and natures. With the games being released to a new audience on the Nintendo Switch, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players rediscover tricks that have been in the games for over two decades.
