One Piece has no shortage of great characters. These could definitely lead their own series.
Currently, Luffy is one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, meaning he is among the strongest fighters in the world. His crew has already collected three Road Poneglyphs, putting them in a very strong position to claim One Piece. Despite this, there is a good chance that other One Piece characters can beat him to the punch.

Shanks is the captain of the Red Hair Pirates and one of the strongest characters in the series. From his very first appearance, it was clear that he was destined for greatness. Subsequent appearances have only confirmed the hype surrounding Shanks. For a long time, Shanks showed no real interest in claiming One Piece, but that changed in the Wano Country arc.
From that point forward, Shanks has been actively trying to find One Piece. He has already beaten Eustass Kid and taken his copies of the Road Poneglyphs. Due to this reason, Shanks has two Road Poneglyph copies, making him one of the closest people to One Piece. There is also a chance that Shanks actually has more Road Poneglyphs, but that has yet to be confirmed.
In addition to the Poneglyph copies, Shanks also has extremely loyal crewmates willing to give up their lives to save him. However, Shanks doesn't need to rely on them either, as he is arguably the most powerful fighter in One Piece. Shanks is blessed with all three types of Haki, and he has exceptional control over them. In fact, his Conqueror's Haki alone is enough to intimidate an Admiral. Additionally, Shanks can use his Conqueror's Haki to stop his opponents from using Observation Haki, putting them at a significant disadvantage. Shanks is also an incredibly talented swordsman who used to go toe to toe with someone like Dracule Mihawk. The winner of their matches has not been revealed yet, but it will not be an exaggeration to say that they were evenly matched. Considering Shank's strength, it is highly likely that he can get One Piece before Luffy.

Marshall D. Teach, or Blackbeard, is the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates. He formed his own crew after murdering Thatch, and shortly thereafter captured Portgas D. Ace and handed him over to the Marines to become a Shichibukai. Taking full advantage of his position, he invaded Impel Down, freeing the worst criminals in history. He then stole Whitebeard's Devil Fruit and then defeated his crew to become a Yonko.
Blackbeard has always come across as an ambitious character, and there was always speculation about what he wanted. Now that he has been confirmed to be the son of Davy D. Xebec, it seems clear that his goal is to become the ruler of the world. As a descendant of Davy D. Jones, Blackbeard probably feels the urge to be king of the world. In addition to that, Blackbeard is also trying to get hold of the Road Poneglyphs.

In fact, he's already taken Law's copies. Additionally, he sent his minions to Whole Cake Island to steal Big Mom's Road Poneglyph and kidnap Charlotte Pudding. Since Blackbeard is very knowledgeable about the world, he knows that Pudding belongs to the Three-Eyed Tribe. The members of this tribe can decipher Poneglyphs with their third eye. So Blackbeard intends to use his power to learn about One Piece's location.
Blackbeard's strength is another reason why he was able to claim One Piece. He has two Devil Fruits – Gura Gura no Mi and Yami Yami no Mi. Both of these are incredibly overpowered and can easily wipe out an entire city with ease. Additionally, Blackbeard has access to two types of Haki, and given his experience, he has likely mastered both of them.

Buggy is probably the most surprising inclusion on the list, but no one can deny that he has a decent chance to come close to One Piece. When he was introduced in the story, no one thought that Buggy would become one of the Yonko. However, he has proven everyone wrong with some serious luck.
Buggy's rise to prominence has been down to being in the right place at the right time. If he hadn't been involved in the Summit War, there's every chance he would never have been appointed Shichibukai. If his henchmen hadn't put up posters of Crocodile, Mihawk and him, the World Government would never have misunderstood that the three of them were working together. Despite being weak, Buggy is serious about claiming One Piece. In fact, he openly expressed his desire to his minions even when he knew it wouldn't sit well with Crocodile and Mihawk.
In terms of strength, Buggy is the weakest. His Bara Bara no Mi isn't actually too shabby, but he's never been one to take full advantage of its power. Buggy is unlikely to be able to use any type of Haki.
