As part of your doneigad initiation quest Greedfall: The Dying Worldyou will have to investigate the cunning and dangerous disease that is ravaging your village. This is an interesting quest that will quickly introduce you to the differences between the natives of Teer Fradee and the foreigners who come to exploit the island's natural resources.
There are multiple objectives and steps to complete in this mission, with many ways to complete individual tasks. There is also a not insignificant element of risk, so we will take you through the entire mission and help you complete it without any problems.
Updated March 10, 2026: We've updated this article to provide details on how to complete the mission stealthily (or not!) and reflect any chances made with the 1.0 version of the game.
How to complete a new evil
After completing the battle tutorial and learning your tasks, you can begin A New Evil in earnest. To start, you have to go talk to Toflanwhich is at the northern end of Vigeshvar, your home village.
Talk to Toflan and ask him about it information about the sick. Talk to the patients about all the options when prompted – you will get some clues as to how to proceed, namely which fishing spot which the patients visited.
Before leaving the village, it's a good idea to pick up the quest The Missing Scales village talking to Armal in the Visitor's House – you will be able to complete this quest at the same time as this one.
How to research the fishing spot
To reach the peninsula you learned about, leave the village to the south and then go eastagainst the quest marker (make sure you follow the quest in your journal menu to make this marker stand out).
Along the way, you'll learn about stealth via a popup. You have a secondary goal avoid battle with any of the country's native beasts, so crouch and sneak through the red bushes to easily avoid them if you want to reach this milestone. It's not necessary, although you'll get an achievement at the end of the prologue if you pull it off.
When you reach the fishing spot, which is denoted by large search area on the mapyou will learn about the game's Tracking location.
There are two places to investigate here to progress the quest:

The spots of bile and vomit on the land north of Fiskeplatsen's centre.

The dead fish on the ground by the river bank.
When prompted to do so examine the pile of bile on the ground using a Survival check. Don't worry if this fails – you can still manually find the target for this stage of the mission.
However, succeeding will do some footprints appears as you can follow in tracking mode, making it easier to follow.
Head north from the fishing spottry the survival controls as you go, until you end up facing west. The last place you need to go is directly northwest of the magnifying glass icon on the map as you follow this quest.
There are some lewolans here – either fight or sneak past them, and examine the dead lewolan in the north.
How to inspect the mine
Through the conversation about the lewolan, your party will infer it the mine must be investigated. It's just a little north – go there now.
You enter one conversation with two miners automatically. During this chat, passes the diplomacy check will automatically give you the information you need to calmly enter the mine. If you don't want to risk failure, you can simply 'Tell Nilan to be quiet' to get the same information without worry.
If you agree with Nilan, you will be forced to fight four minerswhich can be a tricky fight based on your tactics – they like to constantly attack, even downed characters and keep them out of the fight.
This method will force you to infiltrate the mines by sneaking or attacking them.
Examine the cart next to the miners to get a clay sample that you will use later.
After learning about Ganimet's name, you can head further north and ask the dog handling instructor at the mine entrance for workwhich gives you access to the mine.
Go all the way north to the entrance to the mine itself, and you'll arrive meet My supervisor in an interlude.
In the conversation, you will learn about one theft for which the natives of the island are blamed. Accept the offer to help investigate when prompted.
How to reach the mine if you fought the miners
If the previous section led you to violence or diplomatic failures, don't worry! You can still enter the mineit just requires a little extra work.
Since you won't be able to talk your way into employment at the mine, you'll have to find another way in. From the main entrance, look for one the path heading to the left – this will lead you to an alternate route into the mine that bypasses the front door entirely.
You have two options here: stealth or violence. You can try to sneak past the guards along this path, avoid detection, and slip into the mine unnoticed. Alternatively, you can fight your way through, but be warned – this is a tougher fight than the one with the miners outside, and there's very little reward for doing so beyond access to the mine itself.
When you get through this alternate route, you have to interact with a lever to lower a bridgewhich allows you to reach the mine. Once inside, the quest continues the same as the peaceful route described above.
How to clear your people's name
Follow the mine leader after the conversation and you will automatically enter the warehouse. Enter tracking mode here and examine anything that glows – the bow, the lock on the ground, the tracks on the back of the Storehouse, and birch leaves.
You can try pick the lock on the chest here and loot its contents – doing this will not affect your reputation or your relationship with the miners.
When prompted, leave the warehouse and report your findings to the mining supervisor. This will give you a piece of experience, a key to the mines and three picks.
A Pickaxe can be a better weapon than your starting weapon if you are a melee fighter. Compare the stats between your current weapon and one of the hacks.
Go back to the mine entrance and use the key to unlock the door. You can try one Mechanics control for a little extra experience, but it is not necessary.
How to save the miners
After making some progress in the mine you will be warned about some trapped minerswhich gives you a new task – to free them. The miners are trapped behind some rubble up a slope too steep to climb, so you have to make your way through the entire mine.
The path through the mine is a linear one-way path. Along the way you can examine ore pits to get some crafting materials and explore to find some chests to loot.
When you encounter a miner threatening a native, a Diplomacy check will end the conversation relatively peacefully and give you some experience. If you fail, you have to put the miner down.
The east edge of the road through the mine will eventually have a fork – taking the path to the right instead of continuing leads to Vlinnfrom the Missing Scales quest.
Eventually you will come to the end of the path, which has the other end of the trapped miners part of the mine and a restricted section belonging to the Bridge Alliance. You need explosives to break through the wall to free the miners, but these can only be found in the restricted section.
Trying to take out the Bridge Alliance soldiers is a very difficult feat. Simply sneak in, open the chest on the lower level of the area and steal the dynamiteand then rush out of the restricted area to immediately end the inevitable battle with the soldiers.
You get one reputation affected with the Bridge Alliance if you get stuck, but you may find this unimportant in the long run.
With Dynamite you can destroy the rubble blocking your way to the trapped miners. Be sure to stand outside the blast radius.
Talk to the miners and then blast the second brick wall to free them once and for all. With that done you can leave the mine and talk to the mine manager to resign from your jobwhich gives you a bit of gold.
How to analyze the samples
You must go to the colonists' fort to analyze the samples you have taken, located on the eastern side of the lake region.
Talk to the fort captain in his office, which you can find by following the quest markers, and talk to him about the possibly poisoned items from the mine. He directs you to the fort's doctor, who is helpful in the same room.
If this is your first time meeting the Fort Captain, you will also pick up Influence in the renewal council applicant.
Talk to the Fort Doctor when you can leave the conversation with the captain and ask her to do so analyze the samples for you. Wait for her to finish the analysis, and then ask her for treatment when prompted. You will get Quicksilver poisoning treatment. The only thing left is to shut down the mine and deliver the treatment.
How to shut down the mine
There are several ways to close the mine:

You can talk to the miners outside the minenear the fast travel point. Telling them about your discoveries will scare them, forcing them to stop working at the mine.
