According to the post, Wario will make his first appearance in Illumination Mario films as a major antagonist for the second film. The synopsis suggests that Wario will team up with Bowser Jr. to take down Mario and Luigi in a quest for world domination, with the film's first trailer previously fueling speculation that Wario may appear in the film. The description does not confirm who can voice Wario for his potential appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy movie.

Wario's appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie wouldn't be too far for the Illumination series. The studio has yet to confirm the return of Seth Rogen's Donkey Kong in the sequel, potentially keeping DK and friends from making a recurring appearance and opening up more room in the cast. Jack Black had also previously shared his own ideas for Wario's role after the debut of the first Mario movie, which suggests that Pedro Pascal could be a good choice to portray the classic Mario villain. The Super Mario Galaxy movie is currently scheduled to open in theaters on April 1.

In addition to Wario's rumored role as the main villain, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is expected to introduce a whole host of supporting characters to the film franchise. The latest Yoshi teaser trailer confirmed that Birdo will make an appearance in a seemingly antagonistic role, along with appearances by more classic Mario enemies like Mouser and Lakitu. Luigi is also expected to play a bigger role in The Super Mario Galaxy Moviewith Mario's brother spending much of the first film imprisoned by Bowser. Mario series director Shigeru Miyamoto received high praise for the film and confirmed that it will be the “main event” of the franchise's 40th anniversary.

While The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be the focus of the franchise's anniversary, Nintendo had much more in store for fans. The announcement of the film was coupled with recently released ports for both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Switch, releasing just weeks after the 40th anniversary-focused Nintendo Direct. The Mario franchise also recently welcomed its first new sports game on the Switch 2 in Mario tennis feverand a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder coming in March, along with a new one Yoshi games in the spring.
