“I Have No Regrets” Hytale Developer Issues Statement about the game's early access launch

One of the developers of sandbox RPG Hytale talks about the game's early access launch and what it took to get the game into a playable state.

Hytale Dev Details New update plans

Now the CEO of Hypixel Studios, Simon Collins-Laflamme, shared a tweet explaining that future Hytale updates will work a little differently in an effort to speed up production. The team intends to use a pre-release patchline with Hytale to be “more adventurous” with weekly updates that will introduce new features and iterations. Collins-Laflamme warns that the weekly pre-release updates will be “unstable by design”, but it will be communicated to players when known issues are found. The CEO assured the players Hytale has automated world backups, but recommends that players back up their own data as well if they intend to use the same worlds in the pre-release patchline. Once the development team is “comfortable” with the pre-release state of the update, which may take one or more update iterations, they will announce an official release and its schedule. Players will also be alerted before the full update lands to ensure mods and servers are as ready as they can be.

Collins-Laflamme notes that in the very first week of this new update system, players shouldn't expect too much as the team adjusts to this new method. Ultimately, the hope is that developers can spend more time working on the updates and their incoming features instead of spending as much time focusing on shipping them. Players should expect official releases to land anywhere from every two to six weeks, depending on the state of the pre-release updates. In either case, hotfixes will still be released as needed, ensuring the smoothest possible experience for players whether they only engage with the final releases, pre-releases, or both. Generally, Hytale Players responding to the news seem to be taking it positively, and especially thank the developers for their transparency.

Hytale, the game that almost wasn't

Hytale is a rarity among games of this era, and not just for the developers' openness about the process of updating the game. The CEO has called Hytale a “forever game,” which says it will continue to receive updates “as long as gaming exists.” Before the Early Access launch, Hytale had already secured the first two years of funding for its continued development through Early Access pre-orders alone. While it's still early days, it's a great comeback saga for a game that was almost completely cancelled.

Fans of Minecraft and the Hypixel server that ultimately led the game's development were extremely upset to hear that Hytale had been canceled in the middle of 2025. Also the developer of Stardew Valley expressed his opinion on the matter, saying that if there was anything he could do to help, he was open to the idea. However, Simon Collins-Laflamme was able to save the game by buying back the rights and released the game shortly after to eager fans. While this meant that Hytale Ultimately launched in an unfinished state, fans seem pretty happy with the game so far and its potential, and this reaffirmed commitment to updates and keeping players informed is promising.
