Mega Starmie's first ever Pokemon card has been revealed

Mega Evolution made a comeback in a big way in 2025 thanks to it being the mechanic Pokemon Legends: ZA revolved around. Its revival brought with it a slew of new Mega Evolutions, many of which have found their way into other pockets of the Pokémon universe. One of these newly introduced Pokémon is Mega Starmie, and now the Water/Psychic type is about to make its TCG debut.

A first look at the first ever Mega Starmie card has been shared by PokeBeach. Part of the upcoming Nihil Zero set, which will be released in Japan later this month, Mega Starmie ex can use Jet Blow and Neblua Beam, the latter of which can deal up to 210 damage. The mega-evolved Pokemon has 330HP so, much like in Legends: ZA, it will take your best to bring it down.

Mega Starmie is coming to the Pokémon TCG

Only the Japanese version of the card has been revealed so far, and while there will almost certainly be an English Mega Starmie card eventually, there's no guarantee that the rest of us will be getting the exact same card anytime soon. However, there is a strong chance that cards from this month's Nihil Zero set will be selected and translated, so that they can be part of the English-language Perfect Order set that will be released in March.

The synergy Pokémon continues to maintain in its games, cards, anime and more is incredibly impressive. I'm sure decisions like which new Mega Evolutions from an upcoming game will turn into cards are first made months in advance. But Mega Starmie has become quite so popular on the back of her Legends: ZA introduction has been quite surprising. I wonder if the push to get it on a card as soon as possible was late.

Especially when, while I'm thrilled to get a Mega Starmie card, it's not exactly the most inspired Pokemon card I've ever seen.

Mega Starmie was the hot new Pokemon in 2025

The Mega Starmie phenomenon (yes, that's what I'm calling it) started with a leak that cast doubt on whether the other Mega Evolution leaks up to that point were accurate. It was just a regular Starmie with long legs. Surely there would be more to it than that?

Turns out no, it was, and after seeing the thing running around in Legends: ZA, the world fell in love with it. So much so that Starmie almost topped a Mega Evolved Pokemon poll where more than 18,000 votes were cast. The only Mega Evolution from Legends: ZA that received more votes was Mega Charixard X, making Mega Starmie the most popular recently introduced Mega Evolution from the latest Pokemon game.
