Bungie has made it very expensive to interact with Tharsis Outpost's junk vendors while the studio works on a proper and more permanent fix for the popular Destiny 2 cultivation site. The expansion has been largely well received by players, adding fully licensed, but technically non-Star Wars content to Destiny 2. Either way, players have been able to explore the new content and areas of the expansion, even finding a player-friendly glitch along the way.
Tharsis Outpost is the new social space for Destiny 2's Renegade expansion, modeled after a traditional Star Wars Cantina place, like the one seen in Mos Eisley. This is where players can interact with various factions, as well as the returning NPC Spider, while taking on quests and spending their credits on new equipment at various vendors. However, it seems that players have found a convenient way to earn some impressive, yet random gear at a much lower cost.
Destiny 2 reveals full patch notes for Renegades Expansion
Destiny 2 is releasing its long-awaited Renegades expansion alongside a massive update that adds significant, player-friendly changes.
Destiny 2 junk suppliers are now much more expensive
While exploring the space, players have other places to spend hard-earned credits outside of the three Destiny 2 Renegades Syndicate factions. While seemingly appearing randomly around the Tharsis Outpost map, players can find an NPC character that appears to be an Eliksni Dreg lying on the ground. Through this junk vendor, players could spend 100 credits to purchase randomized “junk” or loot that ranged from useless items like a “miniature broom” to the highly sought-after Refraction Core piece for the Praxic Blade.
Players seemingly earned sets of armor ranging from tier 3 to tier 5 that also dropped with some really weird and, what some would call illegal, stats. Players noted that the armor usually dropped by 2 stat spikes for things that normally don't stack on normal loot. It is likely because of this, as well as an attempt to protect fairness for the upcoming Equilibrium dungeon race, that Bungie has greatly increased the cost of doing business with these vendors to 7,777,777 credits, a sum that is out of reach for most, if not all, players. The price will remain until a more permanent fix can be applied.
The reaction to the change has seemingly frustrated most players, who have once again called out Bungie for removing a fun aspect of the game. Many were disappointed to lose an easy way to unlock Destiny 2's Refraction Core for the Praxic Blade exotic sword, which has a random chance to drop after making purchases at the salvage exchange. Others pointed out that in addition to the illegal armor stats being potentially problematic, the other big issue is that the armor can drop together at the same time and, for those who don't have room, can easily flood their Postmaster and push out any potential saves completely.
Also with Destiny 2 Renegades is being received much more positively than The Edge of Fate, and there is still concern about the game's future due to the continued decline in player numbers. Bungie revealed a limited Destiny 2 roadmap, but in terms of long-term plans, not much is known yet. Rumors have continued to swirl that a Destiny 3 is currently in early development at Bungie, though an official announcement is likely far off barring the upcoming launch of Bungie's Marathon year 2026.
